This picture of Magnolia was sent to me by the Mile High Travelers. It depicts Magnolia as it was approximately 50 years ago, long after its heyday as a mining town. My thanks to the Travelers for the picture
The 11th in the ghost series, located at an elevation of 7999 feet.Located above the old mining town of Magnolia Co. The townsite was spread up the mountain for a distance of probably 2 miles. Little exists of the town today, and its not easy to spot where building foundations once were. The town probably started about a quarter mile after leaving the highway and starting up Magnolia Rd, and was prob centered about 2.5 miles from the highway. The cache is located approximately 3.75 miles up from the highway. This is a brand new road, they ware putting the final touches to the asphalt as I was going up. Steep in some areas with many switchbacks. Watch for deer on the road. A very nice view from the parking area.
Magnolia came into being in about 1875 when ore similar to that found in Sunshine was found. The mines were worked for rich ore, and then after a cyanide mill was built the diggings were worked again for the low grade ore than hadn't been worth the effort before. As the mines faded, so did the town.
The original contents of the cache contained:
Vial of Gold (real) Toy dump truck 2 pencils with neat erasers Deck of Cards Light Stick Light Crawler mini flashlight Knife keychain
Ghost 11 Travel Bug which is free to wander
A camera - please take your picture and log the frame number here and in the log book.

07/09/2016 By Grandad Hollywood Out for the day with Mrs Grandad Hollywood & our (English) visitors from Madrid. Took us a while & I'd probably rate this more a difficulty 2 or 2.5! No camera in the cache now. I took the container up to the parking lot to check it out & sign the log - and there's another couple of geocachers arrived!! TFTC...
