Mancos has an airport? Well, sort of. And from here you can try to see it and also some views of the valley that don't require a trip to the mountains.

Some time ago, we're not sure when, the town of Mancos came in possession of this property just outside and overlooking town. And some time ago, someone cleared, or planned to clear a landing strip in this field.

Just this past winter, as has happened in the past, the town again held discussions and public meetings to decide what to do with this property. We must have missed the issue of the Mancos Times that published a resolution, if any was ever reached.

Update, not that anyone really cares, including us. But 120 of you have found this in 4 years!
From The Mancos Times, September 1 2010, p.1:
Board tables airport property sale
The Mancos town board tabled their decision to sell, or not to sell, the airport property they own on County Road 42. They instructed the staff to get results of the old survey that was done in 1985, firm up the financial figures and revenue proposals for the property, and gather other potential ideas for selling the property. The board did not want to rush into a decision on the sale, were not sure just how to sell it, nor how to get it appraised. "I hate selling assets, but its not an asset unless it's doing something for us," Trustee Perry D. Lewis said. The property already provides gravel that is being used by Montezuma County. "We profit from the roads here in the county," said trustee John Thomas. "We need to be careful about getting rid of the gravel."

Some things never change...

Meanwhile, we noticed at the site and on Google Earth that some construction or quarrying (gravel?) activities are underway at the southern end of the hill.

We'll try to do some more research about the history and plans for this land, but if anyone knows more, please share.

If anyone asks, just tell them you're checking out the airport!

We thought that the construction sign might be temporary, but it is at least semi-permanent, so the hint remains relevant. Good views of the wonderful Mancos Valley. TFTC

Removed the old full log. Many thanks to whomever taped it up and marked it.
The new one works, so I left it and didn't add any. Maybe should have but fewer finds this year.
Also stuck it back between the rocks, so no need to climb over and be technically
From my 11 year memory the rocks have been knocked down at some point, but there's still a gap for the cache.
