Hallelujah! After having a conversation with a security person at the original location and basically being run off, finally locating this one was sweet! I admit to looking in all the wrong places before making the find, but this time, no one was around and persistence paid off. Signed log. Thanks for the challenge!

The last find for me on a great geocaching day. 20 finds and one DNF. I celebrated my birthday by taking the day off and doing a combination of solo caching and caching with my family. But to be honest, I’m a little nervous about writing this log. Not because I think it was missing and dropped a replacement without consulting with the CO. Not because I got accosted by the police while I was searching (I didn’t). But mostly because I didn’t have the experience that the two FTFers did. Nor did I have the experience that was likely expected from the CO. I actually tried to be a part of the original party that was searching for the first iteration of this hide. The group that WAS accosted by security guards and told to leave the premises. (for the record - nowhere near this placement.) But their search was put to a stop before I could get there. So I didn’t have the experience of searching twice for this before finding it. I didn’t undergo the mind-numbing frustration of a fruitless search and then the head scratching and self-described NC-17 swearing that apparently ensued at this location. I only had to search in this area one time.

Therein lies the problem. The CO, whose hides I’m all too familiar with, loves a good challenge for finders. I remember him saying that he was looking forward to reading the DNF logs on this particular cache. And as the description says very clearly: “This will probably be my most difficult hide to date! This hide will test your GeoCache skills and Mind. If you don’t find this cache, please log all of your DNF’s. For anyone who does find this cache PLEASE KEEP THE LOCATION TO YOURSELF! NO HINTS WILL BE GIVEN.”

And I didn’t receive any hints or ask for them. Which, for T5M hides, is somewhat unusual for me! I often find myself struggling mightily to figure out what ridiculous idea he’s come up with this time. But I did some Google Maps reconnaissance and had a pretty good idea of where it WOULDN’T be. So, given ALL of that, I thought this was going to be a multiple trip, excruciating search process. But, uh, you see, the thing is….well...I found it in under five minutes…. On my first attempt. By myself. Without any outside help. Yeah…

“YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!” While I know this is what T5M intended the searchers and DNFers to say, in this case, I’m sure it’s he who is exclaiming that as he’s reading this! Sorry to disappoint you T5M. It truly is a brilliant hide and I would expect future DNFs for sure. But I’m glad I won’t be one of them! Which goes back to my opening statement. I’m a little nervous that this will cause the creative juices to flow even heavier, leaving me once again grasping at straws and saying on future hides “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Thanks for the hide T5M. I appreciate you keeping this cache active for everyone to enjoy.

[FTF] First to Find with heh324 on this lovely holiday.

We struck out earlier today looking for a cache. I swore, I scratched my head, I swore some more and you about drove me to want a beer. If the security didn’t kick us out I swear I wouldn’t have left for three days until I found it. That being said, we moved on as I didn’t feel like arguing with security and or the fez.

Fast forward many hours. After a cervesa with the one and only heh324 we saw this cache publish. Wait a second, this cache title looks familiar. I didn’t have to convince heh324 too much as we both wanted revenge. Without the possibility of security guards we swore we wouldn’t leave without finding this.

Again, we swore, looked, swore, looked some more and swore loud enough that the cache owner was able to hear us. Are you kidding me? I thought I was getting good at finding your devious hides and was shocked this was eluding us yet again. I give credit to heh324 for ultimately making the find. Her initial idea was right when we got to GZ. Yet I thought we looked and ruled that idea out. We didn’t give up and tried EVERYTHING until finally heh324 spotted something. It is apparent that I should listen to her more (with my good ear).

Well done on a devious hide and for keeping us coming back for more. Favorite point for the fun, hours spent looking, the NC-17 swear words that were said today and the sneaky hide. Guess I still haven’t figured out that sick mind of yours as you continue to amaze me.

Some may call me seriously mentally ill. Some may state that I am in a state of mind that prevents social interaction. Some may say I am in a state of mind that prevents normal perception and or behavior. I prefer to say that I tend to do the same thing over and over again, but I expect different results. That being said, I believe we only live one life and I am trying to make the best of it. I thank you, the5millers for placing a fun geocache to fuel my "insanity" or addiction as I call it. I appreciate you bringing me here so that I can try and sign my alias on a piece of paper that you have hidden.

I look forward to finding more of your geocaches. I also look forward to potentially finding geocaches with you one day and sharing stories of our insanity... I mean hobby or addiction? Cheers!

[FTF] with PayMeCache on a very laborious Labor Day

A text from PayMeCache at 6:01a.m. on a holiday morning: “Travis says he’s looking forward to reading DNF logs on his new cache”…. Oh hell no - Challenge accepted! (uh, well right after I have a cup of coffee)

Off we went (like a heard of turtles), DETERMINED to prove this CO wrong! Cut to about an hour and 45 minutes later and security is now asking us politely for the second time to please leave….so with our heads hanging low and our determination shattered we drove away from ground zero. We decided to grab a bite to eat and strategize how we were going to now return to a place we were clearly not wanted in order to avenge our names and reputations.

Many hours later, with my belly full and our brains briefly running on all cylinders, we made our way to the new and improved ground zero knowing our already long day could potentially get even longer as we knew we couldn’t walk away again without a smiley.

Thinking like the5millers can be exhausting sometimes!! We searched for 10 or 15 minutes and then stepped back and thought it all through. Again, we searched for 10 or 15 minutes and again stepped back to regroup and discuss what we thought was the right way to approach this. It started to rain… WHAT WERE WE MISSING???? Okay….from the top….we approached the area again, but this time we looked at things just a hair differently and EUREKA that sneaky log presented itself!! Our celebrating at the scene of the crime was kept to a minimum though as it was raining pretty good.

The true satisfaction comes from being able to write a log with not only a “FOUND IT”, but with an FTF in the first line of text. I kind of also wanted to talk a little smack and put my favorite finger in the air for the5millers, but that’s PayMeCache’s MO, so I’ll just make this find a favorite and quietly revel in our victory.
