Near Beaver Creek Picnic Area in the Gunnison River Canyon. 1/4 mile hike up easy dirt hiking trail. Elevation of cache: 7705'.
Hierro was a railroad "siding" for the historic Denver & Rio Grande narrow-gauge Railroad. "Hierro" is the Spanish term for "railroad siding", which is a place where two trains on the same line can pass each other. Hierro was in the Gunnison River Canyon, alongside the river, very near the confluence of Beaver Creek.


This cache is one of several caches around Blue Mesa Reservoir. Cache is in a clear plastic box with a red rim.

Checking the trail map on the way out of the canyon and just happened to spot this cache on the map. Figured I might as well grab it while I'm close, so this was a bonus cache. Phone app sent me in the circles, but I was able to make the grab. Cache still in good shape. Thanks. Nine years apart on placement, wow!

Took a lousy route but scored lots of stair credit on out fitbits. We are walking out on the trail. we are super happy that the cache was here!
