Guston Church

Located just off of Ouray County Road 31. If you do not have a 4 wheel, high clearance vehicle, you need to hike about 2.4 miles downhill and return or about a half mile up hill. The entry from the north end of CR 31 is passable for some cars.
Cache is an ammo box. The location of the cache does not require moving or even touching any historical or architecural items. When it was replaced, it several photo magnets of the San Juans, some Mardigra Beads, several toy cars, a package of batteries and various other small items.

We prefer the south or uphill entrance near N 37 54.187 W 107 42.550. This takes you past the ghost towns of Red Mountain and Guston as well as the National Bell Mine, the Genesse-Vanderbilt Mine and the Yankee Girl Mine. High clearance vehicals are almost needed for this access road.
Just past the cache is the remains of the Guston Church at N 37 55.035 W 107 41.652. The church has fallen over, but the walls of the Pastor's log cabin are still there. He and his wife and 3 children lived there.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE HISTORICAL SITE. ONLY LEAVE FOOTPRINTS AND TAKE MEMORIES AND PHOTOS.

Running around the Ouray-Durango area and logging a few caches along the way.
We just got home and 1st chance we've had to get our finds logged in the computer.
Found at 10:15 AM.
Took Travel Bug Dog Tab TB that had been hiding out here for 10 months.
Cache in good condition.

Fantastic camo, took a bit until we realized. Ruins were pretty neat too. Dropped off a travel bug, this one all the way from Germany! tftc

Geocaching has taken us to so many neat areas that we would have never seen, otherwise. Definitely one of our favorites, thank you.

We went for a hike with the Ouray Historical Museum. Another guy on the hike found the cache, not knowing what it was. My husband explained and helped hide it again. May need to be checked and hidden better.

Very interesting area. Was out with the Farmington Museum on one of their history hikes. Discovered that there were other cachers in the group!

Never would have seen the remnants of the church if weren't for this cache!

Interesting cache, too bad the old church has fallen down. Old ammo can is still hanging in there. Enjoyed the cache, thanks!
