Our 3rd cache of the morning. We flew to Colorado yesterday morning for the long weekend to hike and summit some 14ers. We are using the Leadville area as our basecamp for hiking adventures over the next few days. This morning, we arrived at the north Mt. Elbert trailhead and set off at 4:45 a.m. and set off down the trail in darkness with our headlamps. We are still acclimating to the elevation, so the climb was a bit of a struggle, but we made it up to the summit in 3 hours. This was our 39th state highpoint.
We actually searched for this cache twice. Could not find it on the way up, but stumbled on it after a short search coming down. Turns out I had practically kicked it during my initial search. It was just well concealed. Many thanks for the hide and the amazing views.

8:31:00 AM My wife and I are from Dallas, staying in Divide, CO for our traditional August vacation to beat the Texas heat for a couple of weeks.
Today is a bucketlist trip for me to Mt. Elbert. I've had this on my geocaching "To Do" list for over 4 years. Our first week here was spent with my siblings and their families, so I didn't plan any big geocaching quests. As a consequence, I was not expecting to have the opportunity to make the trek. Yama Gypsy happened to memtion that she and Lemonheadmafia were going to make this hike today and they allowed me to join them. They even outfitted me with camping gear for the night before. It was also fortunate that we had great weather (aside from the haze of the forest fires).
We traded some notes and came up with a plan. We started from the Mt Elbert North trailhead a few minutes after 0400 and finished at the Black Cloud trailhead at 1611. My patient wife picked us up and shuttled us back north, where we broke camp.
The hike was tiring, but I'll never forget the experience. Even with cellphone mafunction at the summit, I still managed to get a few good pictures before and after that point.
I guess we were about four and a half hours into the hike at this point. A couple of hours earlier, I snapped a picture of the sun rising over the low clouds. Nice hide here.
We signed the log. Thanks, vorticity, for the cache.

First cache of the morning. Lemonheadmafia and I met up with a geobuddy from Texas to hike Mt Elbert. We started from the northeast side and descended down the blackcloud trail. Perfect weather besides the wind! We enjoyed the challenge of this hike. Traded trackables. Tftc!

What an adventure and a half! Started at 3:30, summited (the first time) at 7, and caught the sunrise at this cache! What a place to see it from!! I set the TB aside to take, but must have stuck it back in the ammo can as I bundled everything back up, dangit! Thanks for placing this cache, definitely helps with the altitude challenge caches out there!
