!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  You will need to enter the cemetery to find the cache.

This cemetery contains about 110 headstones with the oldest dating back to 1895.  The entrance gate is 0.5 miles outside the cemetery itself which is a little unusual.

No-go at this station. DNF. Gave a try. Where GPS was placing coordinates, think there may have been a chain link fence in area at one time, but no longer. Checked the fence poles as best as possible in the mid-shin deep snow and cleared what was able to. Checked the trees inside the cemetery close to coordinates and no luck. Cache may be there but too much snow for good search. Maybe next trip, cannot get them all.

On Day 2 of my caching trip, I decided to concentrate on these CO Spirit Quests with a few ECs and virtuals thrown in. All of these cemeteries are interesting and most are in great shape; lots of history here. Thanks to all the COs who placed these caches for my geo-fun.

Continuing our trek from MN to CO and gathering counties and cemeteries along the way. Was a little concerned in that this one was "a little lonely" and we were detouring a bit off our main route to get it but it was a straightforward hide and went quickly. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

This was the ninth of nine CSQ caches on the day. It appears that the fence is undergoing reconstruction and I could not locate the cache after a good 10 minutes of searching. I left a black bison tube hanging in the northernmost tree. I hope this is ok, but if not I can pick it up on my return trip. Thanks for another Colorado Spirit Quest cache.
