!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

Thanks to Volunteers: Greasepot, Taylorgeotracker, Ivy Dog Parents, Team Boogity3, Grand High Pobah, Boborr 80909, Imusttravel2000, Buzz Lightyear I, Sandhill 49er, MrVolkswagen, Isisfan, LadyCoots, Rockymtn8iv, Fork-L-Man, TwoCs, Outdrlvr201, Condor1, 2Cachedivers, arthurat, smilz787, Kyotmoon, Mountain Roamer, Cuttie Pie, SugarPug, Team Tiger Pride, ernie66, drnetwork, Team w-bar-v, Dynamite Rabbit, Twins18, DustyKat, mtnbirders, The Johnson Family, RustyBeerCan & Marma, grymreaper, nteclpr, Irish.Eyes, Moose1 & Mama Moose, Joe Friday, 3cacheteers, Electronicgeek, Jake92, 3cacheteers, Dasha Aussies, KB0UMW, hiking_fool, Tahosa & Sons , tripping, res71cue and 1Mrs1Ogre   New Clan members are always Welcome

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  You will not need to enter the cemetery to find the cache and it is available 24 hours a day

This cemetery is actually known by two names, Hanshaw and Lakeview. There are about 11 markers and the oldest is dated 1911.

Directions: If coming from the south, take road RR and it will curve right or to the east (County Road 35.5 but I do not believe there is a sign showing the name) and eventually becomes road SS which runs next to the cemetery. Do not go straight where road RR turns and enter the Wray Cattle Company as there is no access to the cemetery from there

Even though aed don't have to enter the cemetery, I still find myself rushing off to get the before sunset. It was a nice visit.

The cache contained had quie a bit of water in it, but the log sheet all remained dry. I eas able to perform required maintenance before replacing.

We are from Missouri but hubbys job has him in Texas and I have joined him for a few weeks. We decided on a weekend caching trip. Our main goals were Mingo and Arikaree. Also 3 new States and other caches along the way.
We love cemetery caches so picking this as our first Colorado cache was easy. TFTC!

I stumbled upon this cemetery a couple of weeks before I started geocaching. I'm back again now looking for something I walked right past then. Funny how many of these people are right next to and don't know it. TFTC
