Before, Elway, Manning, and 3 Super Bowl Trophies. .... Before the south stands, Mile High Stadium, McNichols, and today's *.* at Mile High Field. .... Before the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets, Avs, Spurs and even the Zephyrs, ... there was another stadium here and it was the birthplace of the Mile High Magic
It was originally known as Bears Stadium, after the Denver Bears, AAA baseball club. This stadium was one of the largest venues in history to host minor league baseball on a routine basis, and had the additional draw of being in one of the largest minor league markets at the time. For many years, the biggest crowds were on 4th of July fireworks nights, and every year the American Association scheduled the Bears for a home game. Crowds of 45,000 and more watched the fireworks game, easily the biggest crowds most minor league teams had ever played in front of. The Denver Bears were 1957 Minor League World Champions, along with being the New York Yankees farm team. The 1980 Bears were recognized as one of the 100 greatest minor league teams of all time.It is gone now... but you can still go to a SPOT [close to the old entrance] and look out and view what 70+ years has brought. Also you can remember when parking was free, when watching a ballgame and a hot dog was a less than a quarter. Once you have found the SPOT, email me with the unique number from it, to claim your smile.

My first trip to the original Mile High was in 1977 when I was a member of a drum and bugle corps. It was nice to visit the site again!

Thanks!

I came down from Wellington today with my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo, hoping to finish up the great wherigo Selentic Age and then come farther south to get the "neon" wherigos along Colfax Avenue as well as the two virtual reward caches in Denver that I had not previously recorded. Things worked out well, and I worked my way through three cartridges, including Vintage Neon-East Colfax and Vintage Neon--West Colfax and both virtuals.

It was a super day of sun and warmth, such a change from the past week of cold, cloudy, rainy weather. Thanks for this virtual, AirDrone. An email is on its way.

Visiting Denver on a short trip... being an NFL fan I had to make a find near the stadium and take some pics. I’m concentrating in different types of caches before I go get the traditionals. Thanks for the virtual and the history lesson. Would have never known otherwise.

Visiting from California, this was only my second time visiting the stadium area. My first? AFC championship game in what would end up being the last Manning vs Brady game, on our way to Superbowl 50. I may live in California, but I bleed blue and orange! It was a lot quieter here today. Thanks for the history lesson, and thanks for the destination!

A find with BriGuy prior to an event. Was a surprise to see so many people in the area so early, so many hours before the game. But a good cache (hours prior to the game)
