CONGRATULATIONS TO 2xblack FOR THE FTF!

There are 114 Ranked Peaks in Jackson County. A Ranked Peak is one that has a prominence of at least 300 vertical feet–that is, it rises 300 feet or more from its saddle with the highest neighboring mountain. One Jackson County Ranked Peak (Rabbit Ears) requires technical climbing. At the other extreme, the easiest of the county’s Ranked Peaks is Peterson Ridge (elevation 8,610 feet). It rises a short distance above Colorado Highway 14 southwest of Walden. Thousands of people drive by Peterson Ridge without recognizing it’s status as a Ranked Peak. Oh, boy-- they don’t have a clue of what they are missing...

This two-stage multi cache takes advantage of Peterson’s Ridge’s simplicity. Stage 1 is hidden very close to the highway, and the Final cache is positioned higher on the ridge yet still is very easy to reach. So stop your journey along Highway 14 and pull into a 2-track road that leaves the highway near the stated coordinates. Find the Stage 1 container and write down the instructions for the Final. Determine its coordinates and then find it.

After finding the cache, make your way to the high point of Peterson Ridge. Find a soft rock to sit on while you take in the views of stunning mountains in the Medicine Bow Range (east), the Never Summer Mountains (south east), the peaks along the Continental Divide as it traverses the south end of Jackson County, and the mountains within the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area to your west. And don’t forget to appreciate the nice sagebrush-covered terrain and the riparian meadows seen so advantageously from this viewing platform. These habitats are loaded with wildlife.

Talk about A Room With a View!
After finding the initial first stage last fall, we were passing by today with some extra time on our hands so we decided to take a trip up to the final. We were a little concerned because of the recent snow & rain in the area & were afraid there would be too much mud. We made it though with no problems. There was a little bit of snow near the final which we found after a little bit of searching. The Benchmark on top of the hill has seen better days but that was a nice find too. Wilbur & Shadow got to enjoy a little running, while Mrs. rockymtn8iv-n-I enjoyed the view.
We were muggled on the way out by some curious cows.
Thank for the find Denali41, a new favorite!

I was excited to see a multi this close to the highway, with plenty of room to park my rig and walk over, but once I found stage 1,I realized that the final is just too far to walk right now, and there's no way I'm driving back there lol. I'm gonna keep this one on my list, in case I ever have time to stop again and walk back.

Down here grabbing our 47th county in Colorado after stopping in to See Captain Rodney last night. Pathfinder33 and I love finding caches that require a little thought and a lot of adventure. Beautiful, and blustery today but arguably our best find this trip! Thank you so much for a wonderful caching memory. SL.

We came down to Jackson county fill in an empty county. When I saw a Denali41 cache and just couldn't pass it up. LolosDream found the original stage 1, and though we looked we missed the bison tube. But got the needed information and back to the car. I did the coordinate converting while LolosDream drove upward. Got to the parking spot and then made our way towards the final. After a quick fix on a coordinate snafu we arrived at GZ and found the cache. I have loved hunting your caches in the Wind River and Bighorn Basin areas in Wyoming and this cache was no different. Favorite point awarded!

I made checks on some of my caches in North Park, including this one. The original Stage 1 container is in place and the information in it is dry. To guard against its possible migration/movement that could make the first stage difficult, I hung another Stage 1 container at the coordinates--it's in a black bison tube. So there is now redundancy at Stage 1--the original plus the bison tube.

I then went to the Final stage. It is in place and in good condition.

Found stage 1 easily. I thought about seeing how well I could do on the final, using geosenses, but I decided the rented Altima lacked sufficient ground clearance. Enjoyed the part I did!
