The Expedition Team

On the summit of Mt. Rosa at 11,490 feet
If you park at N38 45.578 W104 57.627, it's a 2.2 mile hike climbing about 1200 feet through some fine woods to a spectacular view. If you aren't driving an SUV, park instead at N38 44.435 W104 57.388 which adds about 1.3 miles each way. The cache is just a bit south of the summit but not far off the trail. The cache is a log-book only cache but feel free if you wish to leave something. Please replace the cache with a good sized rock on top of it so the wind doesn't get a hold of it! I think the original container blew off the mountain.

Be sure to look into GCGEXA BEFORE you go on this superb hike!

Left the North Cheyenne Canyon parking lot at sunrise this morning with 2 goals: summit Mt. Rosa before the weather rolled in and pick up a few specific higher-altitude caches for a challenge I've been working on. Skipped a bunch of caches along the way due to previously posted DNFs, which freed up quite a bit of time to explore elsewhere - after summitting, I dropped south to Pike's Cave and then down to FR 381 (recon'd it back to where the trail crosses it - it's in great shape!), detoured to St. Mary's Falls, and even finally got to Four Paws. What a GREAT hike! I had been putting this one off due to trail reports talking about bullets whizzing overhead(!!) but those must have been from the Frosty Park approach - today's hike was quiet and felt totally safe. My fitbit clocked me in at 20.15 miles by the time the rain encouraged me to go back to the car. Thanks for placing this cache! What a magical view!

First time to hike this one !! Too bad the rain & thunder were so hot on our heels.
How great is it up here on the right fall day?? Sure going to have to keep an eye on that!

WOO HOO!! We made it. Really windy up here today. Wow what a view. I took a few pictures and then we started our search. Olive sniffed this one out in it's well protected hidding spot. Stamped the log and started our way back down the trail. [8d][8d] SL TFTC TNLN

Well Mt Rosa, we came back to conquer your summit and this time we were prepared!!! a short 2 hour walk in the snowshoes guaranteed that you would become our 500th cache. we definitely needed the snowshoes, and it made the trek so much fun. we were exhausted when we got up there, but found the cache in great shape. thanks so much for giving us something to strive for. Grabbed two bugs left a space blanket.
We came prepared this time!

Above the clouds, city and mountains.

4.). Oh Mt. Rosa. You beat us. We had 595 feet to go but bushwacking through waist deep snow to try and reach your summit totally bested us without our snowshoes. As we were creating our own trail through the snow we cut up a shin fairly badly on a rock underneath. Had to abandon our effort. Will be back in the summer to log this cache!!!!
