An easy hike to a cache located along the Granby Pump Canal, and a great opportunity to catch fish and have a restful time in the Great Out Doors. FTF gets five fishing flys. Bring your own pen.

Congrats to moon dancer as the FTF!!!!
IMPORTANT as of June 19, 2015: The real and active 35mm geocache continues to still be in it's hiding place, WITH the PASSCODE on the container, and in excellent condition. In mid Aug, 2014, some geocachers did not replace the geocache where it should be so I replaced it with a new cache container to it's proper location. Unfortunately, recently two geocachers have stated that they found the geocache with a "wet log and no Passcode"; that IS NOT the correct geocache! If you find that old 35mm film canister geocache, please put it at the base of the little pine tree with the two strips of pink surveyor tape on it. Then send me a message so I can go get it. Thank You very much!

Cache is located along the Granby Pump Canal which was constructed in 1949-50. Granby Pumping Plant lifts the water 125 feet from Lake Granby to canal. The water flows 1.8 miles to Shadow Mountain Lake, which also intercepts North Fork flows of the Colorado River. Shadow Mountain Lake connects with Grand Lake to make a single body of water from which diversions flow to the Alva B. Adams Tunnel to begin the journey to the eastern slope over the Continential Divide and flowing in to Estes Park, CO. Brown and Rainbow Trout, Kokanee Salmon, or a stray Lake Trout can be caught in the canal, especially when they are pumping. The Osprey or Bald Eagles may join you while you are fishing. You can also hike, or ride your bike the 1.8 mile length of the canal and view Lake Granby from where the water enters the canal, or empties in to Shadow Mountain Lake.
Parking is available near cache GC1GKPK (Don't Fence Me In) which is located at N 40° 12.095 W 105° 51.808.
