From the time when kids had to walk up hill both ways in a blizzard to get to school the Yuma County Historical Society has set out to locate and mark all the old country school.

In 1920 Dist 90 and Dist 97 joined back together after a 4 year seperation. Both districts moved their school houses into this location to form the grade school. At the time of consolidation dist 60 & 61 from south of town also became part of the consolidated district. The mechanics shop that you are looking is built on the pad that the high school originaly set on. The living quarters on the side of the house was part of the original Grade School.

The back part of the mechanics shop was where the original Gymnasium set. It was originaly set partway in the ground. The Property owner said that it became in such poor shape that he had to fill it in and pour a new floor
