RM Off Road Series (ORS) #3: Georgia Pass

This cache is the third of seven in my #3 series of off-road caches located along fun/beautiful north-south route that goes over Georgia Pass. This route runs for about 23 miles (21 miles dirt) from Hwy 9 just north of Breckenridge to Hwy 285 on the south.

Cache Information
You will reach this very beautiful spot shortly after the trail starts to get a little bit interesting. The cache is only a few feet from where you can park. The trail from here to the Pass is a lot of fun.

RM Off Road Series #3 Complete Cache Listing (North to South)

1. Moose Meadow
2. Stream Junction
3. Cabin With a View
4. Another View at the Top
5. Valley View
6. Awesome Meadow

7. View Back at the Pass

Trail Information

Rating/Description
This trail is rated moderate because of a couple of rough/steep miles of trail you will encounter just north of the pass. Most of the trail is easy, particularly on the south side of the pass. The trail can be done in most 4wd SUV type vehicles. I left my Jeep at home for this trip and instead did it in my 4wd Toyota Tacoma and made it easily. This was really a fun/beautiful trail with none of the edgy shelf road type stuff that makes Mrs. RocketMan nervous (Too bad because I did this trip by myself). Disclaimer: You need to decide for yourself if it is safe to make the trip in your vehicle.

Winter Months
The trail becomes 4wd impassable in the winter months. I believe it is open to snowmobiles.

Time/Distance
The entire trail (dirt portion) is approximately 21 miles and should take about 2 to 3 hours driving time. You will also need to include time for finding the caches, exploring, sight seeing, lunch, etc.

Trail Waypoints
See waypoint list on the Moose Meadow cache for the trail waypoints.

Definitely a beautiful view from this cache as we use the area to help consolidate our caravan again. Quick find of the cache as it was in the hand of another reviewer.

Found while on our GeoWoodstock roadtrip. During our nine day, 3900 mile journey, we found caches in six states (including one new one), added 90 new counties, 39 virtuals, two Cache Across America caches, and the oldest caches in four states. Found with a bunch of fellow friends, reviewers, and lackeys as we wound our way up the mountain in a 13 Jeep caravan. Bumming a ride with maingray as well as Mr and Mrs Mtn-man. Thanks for the cache.

Signed as MG or XV, up from NC.

Wow, today was so much fun. Jeeped around here with 12 other Jeeps and soem great friends. I was driving "Blue" and there were some cool bumps to navigate. Huge thanks to the locals who helped out today, and got us there and back safe. My roomies were mtnman, mrs mtnman and allenite.

Found with a great group of Geocachers. Thanks for all that made this a memorable day even though it was drizzling most of the time, we still had a blast. Thank you for the cache in this beautiful area.

I enjoyed visiting the Denver area this week from my home in Pittsburgh, so that I could attend my fifth GeoWoodstock. Today's offroad adventure to find eleven caches on the Jeep trail to Georgia pass was my favorite highlight of a great roadtrip. Thank you to Team Red Rubicon for being great hosts to the out-of-town visitors!

Spent a week out in Denver with friends. The main event was Geowoodstock 14 of course, but while we were in town we enjoyed local sights, great food and brews, and of course the best caches the city has to offer. Day three took shadowgal and me away from our NC traveling companions and down to Breckenridge to meet up with Team Red Rubicon and Moose Mob for a 4WD ride over the Georgia Pass. Lots of laughs, a few bumps, and some great scenery were on the menu for today.

Found while 4 wheeling with Team Red Rubicon. This was by far the most fun side event I've ever been to at GeoWoodstock. Colorado Rocks!!

Thanks for the cache! Without cool caches this would have been just a ride in the woods!!
