Finding it is easy. Getting up here is the challenge.

For Red Elephant Hill you need a HIGH CLEARANCE 4x4. A winch and lockers would be beneficial. Don't drive this one by yourself. The best approach is to run Red Elephant Hill UPHILL. There are very few places to pull over and the road is narrow.

Parked my Prius down at the freeway exit and had a nice 9.3 mile hike RT. I had hoped to make it all the way to Bill Moore Lake - but ran out of time. I like to turn around by noon - in case weather comes in. I ended up with 1572 feet in elevation. It was easy going up, but I had to be careful going back down, because it was very steep most of the way. Thanks! Had the place to myself except for two ATVs - Dad's with their daughters. Westbound Friday afternoon traffic was backed up from Dumont to Evergreen. 1903 was my favorite - the gorgeous meadow and wildflowers.

I had thought about going after this one when it was first published but really was not looking forward to the relentless hike up the steep jeep road. It was nice the 4x4 group put some caches out. We got 4 on our hike today.

Found it with a large group on the way to the Mountain Chillin' and 4x4 Caching Adventure event. We really enjoyed the entire day! A big thank you to Mountain Roamer and jpit for the highly skilled rides on the difficult Red Elephant Hill trail!! TFTC!!
