!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mountain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

When the Dillon Dam was built, the old Town of Dillon was flooded.
Some of the buildings were relocated to other places in Summit
County. The rest were burned to the ground. The gravesites were
exhumed and re-interred in the new Dillon Cemetery at this location.

One of the more notable and recent gravsites is that of an infant (probably newborn) girl found off I-70 in late November, 1993 at Officer's Gulch. Her parents were never found so she remains unidentified. Her coloring suggested she was of Hispanic heritage, so after many citizens contributed to a fund to give her the identity she lacked in life, a gravestone was erected in the Dillon Cemetery. On one side is the name "Feliz Navidad" and November 29, 1993 and the other side is inscribed "her name known only to God"

The cache is a medicine bottle with a 35 mm film canister inside. Log only. Bring your own pencil

Weather windows on the 14ers are too narrow for comfort at the speed I ascend, so I'm grabbing some caches and being lazy today.

Here in the area for the week caching and hiking. Truly amazed at restoring of this cemetery. We always love to visit the old cemeteries and read the head stones.
Thanks for the cache that brought us to this piece of history. Favorite point from us!

Up from Centennial today doing some high-country geocaching. I’m teaching my friend how to geocache and he is loving it. Loved being in this cemetery. TFTC
