From the time when kids had to walk uphill both ways in a blizzard to get to school. The Yuma County historical society has set out to locate and mark as many of the old county schools as possible

Happy Valley has an interesting or maybe sketchy history. The first stories start when people from the Mullison district had joined together to form a new school sometime around 1910. It was reffered to as the Carter school or Carter District at the start and was most likley District 20. Mrs Sam Arnold who lived in the area was the first teacher. I was also stated to be in the vicinity of the Carwin Ranch which was somewhere west of Wauneta. It seems that Happy Valley had a very good ball team as it was mentioned more often than any school functions. As with all the districts it continued to divide as the area became more populated. District 20 seemed to migrate north and Happy Valley was cut out to become dist 111 againt the wishes of some citizens when a lawyer told those petioning for a new district to hire a teacher and to just move the school and let it be fouugt out in court. It continued as the Wauneta District until 1951 when consolidation became prevelant.

FTF

I saw these 2 FTFs before I left Aus so had to stop and find them two, on the back roads they were easy enough to find and sign the blank virgin log book .

In Dallas for work so decided to head up to Colorado for 2 nights, I made a plan to go to 4 states in 2 days (Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas) with the aim to find Mingo plus a few others along the way and attend 2 events.

Thanks for the cache
