This is a seasonal cache on BLM land. The road is closed from November until late May. 4WD is not necessary, but there is a bit of a center hump in some spots along the road.

At times, pronghorn antelope can be seen along this road.
Go south on County Road 42 at mile marker 163 on US 50 east of Gunnison. Bear left at the landfill sign (do not go to the landfill). At N 38° 30.751, W 106° 49.570, take the right fork. From there on, stay on the well traveled road. No need to follow any of the double-rut side trails.

Cache is a one-gallon clear Rubbermaid jar a short uphill climb from the road. Inital contents are:

log book & pencil
die cast Hummer
Where's George $1
mini lint roller
Spider Man keyring
plastic zebra
wildflower refrigerator magnet

Great adventure! Searched for the cache in the rain. Took a travel coin and left a wine opener. No one's been here all summer. Set out for Pronghorn Rock cache and saw a Pronghorn!!! The rain got worse and it was late, so we bagged it for the day. The way in & out via the old UMTRA haulage road to HWY 50 was really looong.

Found at 5.30 pm, 57 degrees & slight wind. Took the travel bug that had spent the winter out here & left a Christmas ornament. Well worth the drive!!! The views are great & the road was mostly fine, even for our Prius! Thanks for the opportunity to visit!

We found it alright but it cost us $250 and some pride. LOL. My stepdaughter and I are geocaching our way from Oklahoma to Colorado to celebrate her sweet 16 birthday. The drive out here was amazing although we saw no pronghorn. About 500ft or so before we should have stopped, the road suddenly got very rutted with a high center. I straddled it at first in my low riding camry but decided I'd better turn around and then park. BIG MISTAKE. I ended up getting stuck in the rut. Unbelievably lucky for us, we had cell service this far out! We called a wrecker and gave him our coordinates. He had no idea how to find us with GPS coordinates but luckily one of his drivers had a GPS. The scary thing was that no one knew where we were - no one. Had the phones not worked... well.. the motto for this trip was "stupid and unlucky can be a deadly combination". However, while we awaited the arrival of the wrecker, we found the cache! TNLN except a bit of our pride. LOL I will visit this cache again next time I'm in Gunnison!!
A long long road...

Stopped to smell the flowers along the way...
