Located on FR 559 between Westcliffe and Gardner. I've been past this point of interest many times and always wondered why someone hasn't placed a cache here. Today I realized that I was someone and so I placed a cache here.

This is a hard pass to get over in the summer with 4-wheel drive. It's difficult to imagine how hard it was on horseback and on foot in the middle of winter. In January of 1807 Zebulon Pike and and his ragtag team made it over Medano Pass only to be captured by the Spanish and held for several months.

Do not cross the fence under any circumstances. Wolf Springs Ranch lies beyond the fence on both sides of the road and buffalo (actually American bison) are raised there. These animals can be very dangerous.

So was Rushman and Olive!! When we pulled up there was a whole heard of buffalo maybe 50 or more right across the fence. Pretty Cool. They ran off before I could get a picture. Stamped the log and we're heading for home. [8d][8d] SL TFTC
