Mustang by New Mexico artist Luis Jiménez was one of the earliest public art commissions for Denver International Airport in 1993. Standing at 32 feet tall and weighing 9,000 pounds, "Mustang" is a blue cast-fiberglass sculpture with red shining eyes located between the inbound and outbound lanes of Peña Boulevard.

Jiménez died in 2006 while creating the sculpture when a portion of it fell on him and severed an artery in his leg. At the time of his death, Jiménez had completed painting the head of the mustang. The sculpture was completed with the help of the artist's staff, family, and professional race-car painters, Camillo Nuñez and Richard LaVato. Upon completion, the sculpture was sent to California for assembly and then shipped to Denver. "Mustang" was unveiled at DEN on February 11, 2008.

"Mustang" has received a mixed review from Colorado citizens. Many critics of the sculpture are attempting to have it removed, however the city plans to leave the installation in place for 5 years before making any decisions regarding its future.

This may have been the only cache where I didn't have muggle interference! I was out this way yesterday at lunchtime and had such a good time I decided to come back and clear out the area a little bit. It is finally starting to warm up and feel like summer, the car thermometer said 82 degrees. I hoped for another day without wasps and snakes, and once again nature smiled upon me and I didn't see either one. I wasn't quite as efficient today as I was yesterday, but I enjoyed getting my vitamin D for the day. Thank you to all the COs for adding a smiley to my day. Find #3645.

I've seen the mustang of course on my way to DIA, but no view of it from here, from what I can tell. There were lots of hotel muggles walking about this afternoon/early evening. Luckily enough, I was quick to locate and replaced the cache discreetly.
