the top of Bergen Peak

Park at the Elk Meadow parking lot on Stagecoach Road for easiest access. This can best be described as a long, but enjoyable hike that has a cache associated with it.

The hike is 9.4 miles round trip with a 1750' elevation gain. Hiking boots are not required and good walking or running shoes could be used. For the vast majority of the hike, you will be hiking on dirt. This is a long hike, hence the terrain rating of 4. Please think carefully about attempting it before you start. Take lots of water and perhaps some snacks. My total time was 4.5 hours.

If you go, DO NOT CUT SWITCHBACKS! You will be sorely tempted to do so becuase of the trail layout but it just erodes trails and doesn't earn us any friends with the ranger staff. Also along that line, keep your environmental impact to a minimum. It will be appreciated.

My birthday boy wanted to Geocache! So off we went with Secret Ninjas. We took the shortcut and drove to the west side of the peak/ park. Great trails leading us there. Tftc!

Hiking is always more fin with friends! This was a great hike in preparation for Mt Bierstadt which we're planning as a sunrise summit since we hiked it two years ago. So our friends will only see the views on the way down!!

We enjoyed a beautiful training hike today with friends in preparation for their first 14er with us in 2 weeks. Planned on logging this cache only and focusing on the hike instead. We took the counter-clockwise route up the middle trail- Meadow to Too Long (the kids kept saying "this trail is toooo long!!" ha ha. On the summit in 2 hrs 15 minutes with snack breaks. Then we took the Bergen Peak trail back down which my son now wants to go back and bike. We drove up from Monument in search of some new trails with distance and elevation so that's not the easiest bike ride to orchestrate. Enjoyed the find, took nothing but left a FTF Geocacher magazine and a bobcats path tag.

This is my first time up Bergen Peak. It's a great place for a hike and just high enough to be a little cooler than down in town. Nice views on the way up too. TFTC
