This cache is located on the "backroad" outside of Hotchkiss, CO. I drive by this spot quite often and decided it needed a cache. There is adequeate parking just past the guardrail on the side of the road. This road is less traveled than the highway, but be wary of passers by.
Delta County, including the area around Hotchkiss, has a wide array of landscapes and terrain. From this vantage point, you'll be able to see a large variety of them. The area North and West of the cache site is fertile and versatile agricultural use and residential areas. Then, as the land drops off from the cache site, you’ll find the lush and diverse river bottom that’s home to scores of wildlife. Scanning further to the South and East, you’ll see more farm land sandwiched in between the river bottom and the sparse and sprawling ‘dobies’. Delta County is largely covered in adobe, clay-like soil, making the ‘dobies’ the go-to spot for mudding, dirt biking and 4-wheeling. Finally, the towering mountains rise over the bland and beige ‘dobies’. The peaks of Mt. Lamborn, Lands End, Saddle Mountain, and Castle Rock are the first one’s you’ll spot. In the distance, the West Elk’s and the Raggeds can be viewed. All of this behind the beautiful backdrop of the vast, blue Colorado sky.
I hope you enjoy the area and the view. Please add pictures of your visit to your ‘Found It’ log!
Happy hunting!
