From the time when kids had to walk uphill both ways in a blizzard to get to school the Yuma County Historical Society has set out to mark and locate as many old schools as possible.

Riverside was formed in 1889 when the area was still Arapahoe County.and was a sod school at this time

A new School was built in 1904

Another new school was built in 1922

It was also called the3 Blacker School and the Ellis School

It was annexed to Vernon in 1952
