Scenic view  Significant hike  Difficult climbing  Cliff / falling rocks  Camping available  Campfires  Medium hike (1km-10km)  Seasonal Access

Destination for the High Point series!

To get here you'll need to be expert at bushwhacking, an ace at scrambling, fearless of heights, and willing to squirm ten feet to the back of a small shelter cave!

The peak can be quite windy, so be careful of the edge. This isn't an easy place for dogs unless they're good at rock scrambles.

Like a moth to a flame, I'm attracted to tall rocks.  This was one of them!

Since you'll be here to enjoy the view yourself, you won't need this 360 degree link:http://360.io/W28U6z!

If you follow the High Point Route series to get here, you'll do about about 1.25 miles of bushwhacking and rock scrambling.  A shorter approach would be from the north but where's the fun?

There's a nice campsite west of the peak along Pearl Beaver Road.  If it's occupied, you can park at High Point Route #1 by the road and hike in.

A suggested route, if you're up for a nice bushwhack:

Initial contents:
  • Log, pen
  • Tiny flashlight
  • Tiny laser pen (mountain lion-distractor!)
  • 2 medium size bells (bear distractor!)
  • Box of crayons (8)

  • Dog tennis ball
  • Pack of stick-on googly eyes
  • Ring-shaped cat toy
  • Bird-shaped cat toy
  • Mouse-shaped cat toy
  • Small rope dog toy
  • Dog training clicker

Thanks for this great series of geocaches. Barasaur, Thomas, and I set out to work through this series as well as attended a mountaintop meet and great. (That's how its done in Colorado)

For future finders of this series:
there is no trail
the terrain is rough
it took us 5 hours to cover two miles
it is all worth it

While I like all aspects of geocaching from time to time, this is my favorite. Just hiking, enjoying the scenery, and then getting a smiley while hanging out with friends.

Memfis Mafia, my son Thomas, Lucy the geodog and I headed out to find the lonely caches at the top. Some of these caches have not been found in 4 years. No trails, cross country all the way. Every step earned both going in and getting back out. Every cache worth the fun. Thanks Trigger for the gorgeous views on this trek.

Triggur you did it. Awesome series. Enjoyed it immensely. Am honored to be signing in second position behind Denali41.

The series I believe was designed to gradually up the stakes for each cache. Each step you take makes you more committed to completing the series, but each cache is a little more difficult and requires a little more work. The genius of this series is that the next cache is only a short distance away.

My suggestion is to allow enough time to get the whole series. I started at 8:30 am and completed the series and was back at my car at 2:30 pm. I bushwacked a lot. I bouldered a lot. I used a different way back than I did on the way up.

The cache names are all appropriate and the hints are awesome. Well done.

Yes, Triggur! It's clear that you are attracted to high points. So am I. But you probably followed an easier route to the high point of the day than I did! I looked at the contours given on my GPS Micro SD Card and followed what appeared to be the easiest way to the top. It wasn't. I got involved in a long Class 3 scramble along the sheer ridge top from west to east. After finally (yes, finally) getting to the cache location and signing it's clean log sheet as FTF, I discovered an easy way down that pretty much conformed with the route you showed on the cache page. Had I used this route during the ascent I could have saved mucho precious time while the lightning and thunder played to the north of me.

Now, the entire High Route adventure loop this afternoon was superb. My puppy Orizaba became much more comfortable with rock scrambling and with serious bushwhacking than she'd earlier been--she was determined to stay with me. This was Zaba's first real encounter with more significant obstacles. And your route really found some interesting objects that we needed to work around...

The cache container was filled with marvelous treasures. I left all of them in place for future finders. I really appreciate what you have created with this High Route series, and with the super Lavabo series you published the other day. Both bring out superlatives for backcountry caching experiences. Thanks!
