This cache is right along the Stanley Canyon Trail as the woods transition to a long meadow with mountains, wildflowers, and tree views.
Terrain difficulty is for an approach from the south - which is steep and a tough hike. From the north - a mild walk on a less traveled but clear trail.
From the North, Stanley Canyon Trail can be accessed out of Woodland Park, by taking Rampart Range Road to Loy Creek Road which turns into Forest Road #307 Shubarth Road https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7035722/shubarth-road-fs-307. The intersection of FS Road #307 and FS Trail #707 is at 39°00'15.6"N 104°55'42.3"W or Google Map https://goo.gl/maps/DpGpDJFdxGZDhMQf8 The trail from the north is easy to hike and has a mild slope down to the geocache site and a mild up returning to the road intersection.
From the South: The Stanley Canyon Trail can be accessed via the U.S. Air Force Academy and public access to the Air Force Academy's trails and trailheads varies and may be restricted due to the base's Force Protection conditions and random security measures. Visitors should confirm USAFA access is open by visiting https://www.usafa.edu/visitors/getting-on-base/ or calling the Visitors Center at 719-333-2025 before attempting to access the trailhead. The road to the trailhead on USAFA is 38.9905, -104.8877 and the trailhead is located at 38.9890, -104.8986. From the south -- this trail is steep, has lots of ruts, scree, and rocks to navigate, and provides a real workout.
