Could not find evidence of a cache at the fallen tree or at the standing tree just to the west.

Began this geocaching trip at Turquoise Lake heading up Hagerman Pass and on to Basalt. Saw the container sticking out from a fallen tree but could not retrieve.

I had found this cache some years ago but for some odd reason, I never logged it.

I found this one with Nickgatt and my geohound, Cuervo. We drove over Hagerman Pass from Carbondale to Leadville. The weather was a bit chilly with some wind and flurries, but considering its the middle of November, we couldn't complain. TFTC SL.

@10:59:00 #26839 Killian33 and I drove from Carbondale to Leadville to find the Virtual on Hagerman Pass. The roads were pretty clear except at the top of Hagerman. TFTC
Thanks for keeping this old one alive!

Bucky & I found this one on an awesome weekend of caching in the mountains! Today's objective was supposed to be Longs Peak, but when we arrived at the trailhead at 03:00 with a temperature of 45 degrees in a driving rain, we switched to the #2 target: the two virtuals near the top of Hagerman Pass. Of course, when we got to the west side of the pass, the temperature was 45 degrees in a driving rain, but I guess that beggers can't be choosers, and we just went for it!
This turned out to be one of my favorite caching days of the summer! The long, slow drive up the pass from Leadville, the drive to the bottom with a major stream running down the road, then the drive back up to the parking area at the western entrance to the railroad tunnel were great, but that was only the beginning. Then the hike up the Telegraph Path to the Divide and the hike further up the hill to the border of the Mount Massive Wilderness Area. Then down to the pass and down some more to the Hagerman Railroad Tunnel on the east side, then back up the hill to the Divide again (for the 3rd time) and down to the truck.
Finally, I was able to grab this one on the way back up the west side of the pass! I don't know why more people don't go for it, since its not that far out of the way. Made the quick find, then continued up to the Divide!
Thanks for the cache!

I came to the Hagerman Pass area to make the hikes in for the two Virtual Caches up here. But I HAD to go west from the Pass to get to this cache--wow, August 2001 as a placement month! I love these old caches, and have great admiration and appreciation for the cachers who put them out and who have maintained them over the years. Thanks so very much for this cache, one of the oldest surviving caches in Colorado. It's too bad that the trees in the area have all been felled by the power company. That old spruce must have been a real gem when it stood presiding over this great cache. Two treasures.

12:00pm, Wow, this was a revisit, last time we found this one was 6 years ago today.
note: The big pine it is behind is no longer there, just a big stump.
