GC7C07 Virtual Cache Top Of The World

This virtual cache is at the summit of Mt. Evans, one of Colorado's 14ers. 14,264' to be exact!
Don't be too discouraged, you can drive to within 15 minutes of the cache (summit). Be sure to give yourself plenty of time though, the air is very thin. Breathe deep and steady, take your time and you should do just fine.

The road to Mt. Evans is the highest paved road in North America and second highest in the world! Drive carefully!

I've been a bit disappointed at the sloppy responses I've had to this Cache. This is a virtual cache so the canisters are not mine. They won't do even if you sign them. I expect you to email me a description of what you found at the very, topmost, absolutely highest point. The two bench marks are not at the very tip top, what I expect you to find, is.

The weather was a bit wild when we were up there so the coordinates may not be perfect. The summit, however is very obvious and easy to determine.

Be watchful for lightning, claiming this cache isn't worth getting zapped!

You'll likely see Mountain Goats on the shoulders of the mountains. The scenery is unbelievable. Don't forget your camera.

It would be fun to see some of your photos here.

There is a $10.00/car fee to enter the area, but it was the best ten bucks I ever spent. Of course this cache won't be reachable after the snow flies.

The road was cool experience. Going up there on the 4th of July meant that there were tons of people that day. Some people are not very courteous of others and some spots were a but nerve racking. LoL. We saw elk, mule deer, sheep and goats. One goat loved being in every photo at the sign. We saw baby goats that also loved the cameras. The walk up to the summit was slow going and yes, the air is a lot thinner, so you need to go a lot slower. The summit itself has an AMAZING view in every direction. Breathtaking in many ways... pun intended.

In the area for a wedding, and since had until Saturday evening free, what better way to spend the time but to see the Rocky Mountains with the bonus that there was a cache on the top of Mount Evans.

After passing Echo Lake, the road was , shall we say, interesting. Glad to get to the top. Found a spot and started the hike to the top. As others have mentioned, take it slow and easy, and it won’t be too bad.

Had not brought winter clothes on our trip, so the 32 F temps and 20 mph winds made it a bit chilly.

Great view from the top.

Thanks for setting up this virtual!

My last minute goal, while we were in St Louis, was to make it to Mount Evans by sunrise. The view was better than I anticipated! The wind gusts were strong enough to knock someone off of the mountain. Add that with 36ºF temperature and you get one cold, but awesome, morning in the Rockies! Email sent... Thank you for the Virtual!!

Started the drive up early and was in the summit parking lot by 8:30 finding only about four other cars. I anticipated that it would get crowded later as after this labor day weekend the road would be closed for the season.

There was a brisk cold wind but lots of sunshine that would warm things up a little later. Put on a few extra layers and took the pup for a short walk around the parking lot as I got accustomed to the altitude. Left her in the vehicle and then hiked the rest of the way to the top. Enjoyed the view for a while got the information required and then made my way back to the parking lot to go find the other cache near the observatory.

Requested information sent. Thanks for keeping this virtual cache active.

Our 3rd cache of the day. We flew to Colorado for the long weekend to hike and summit some 14ers. We landed at DEN this morning around 7:30, picked up our rental car, and immediately drove to Mt. Evans, arriving on the summit by 10:00. Great way to acclimate to the altitude by driving to 14,000+' for a short hike. Glad we brought along our national park pass to save the $15 fee.

We have visited CO the last few Labor Day weekends, and we know the road closes next week, so it was good that we visited at the start of our trip today. It was definitely a very popular place and a lot of muggles in the area. Many thanks for keeping this one going.

It was a treat to see big horn sheep and mountain goats nibbling along the side of the road. And for about fifteen minutes, I had the top to myself! Thanks for this Evans virtual. Email sent.

Visiting Colorado for the first time and I had an extensive list of things to do. After Pikes Peak I was ready for the next one and I wanted it to be Mt. Evans. I really enjoyed the drive with so many scenic views. I would really love to visit the observatory one day the view at night must be amazing. From the lessons learned at Pikes Peak I took a lot of water and ascended slowly paced and taking deep breaths. I’m glad I came prepared for the temperature and the wind. The highest point in Florida is about 300’ period! 14k plus was a challenge. The day was clearer than the previous which had the smoke from the west wild fires. I kept humming... in a clear day you can see forever... also had the pleasure to meet some of the locals, the big horn sheeps and mountain goats, with plenty of birds and little critters I called chipmunks. Thanks for keeping this cache and hope my answers were good.

Answer sent! Wasn't sure if the other less-visited peak was higher, so went over. . .and it's not. Hiked up from Summit Lake on the steep trail. But once that was over, the rest of the hike was relatively easy (looped back over Spalding with detour to "the sawtooth"). It's amazing how accessible these huge peaks are in Colorado! Thanks for the virtual.

Unexpected, we had an additional day to spend in the Denver area. We decided to drive to Mt Evans, which was a good decision. The last steps up to the top were not too easy but we did it. The answer to the question was sent - hope it fits. Thanks for the virtual!

Wow! I was blown away by just how extreme that road was. First time exploring the Rocky Mountains and all my expectations have been blown away. Can’t wait to sit down and sort through the memory card full of pics I’ve shot. The view was beautiful and hopefully we’ve answered the questions to your satisfaction after we waited for the instagram girls to clear off that rock. TFTC! It was an unforgettable experience. Lullabye has submitted our answers.

This, along with Mingo, was a must for our brief (but jampacked) weekend visit. Was such a blast! Between the close encounters with the sheep and the breathtaking vistas!! Wow!! Did not properly plan, as i didn't bring a jacket (I've become quite hotblooded in middle age), but i wasn't cold for long. I did better on the climb up than I thought I would do, and other than the instagramming teens hogging the actual summit, it was easy peasy. Answers submitted by lullabye4u. Tftc!!

Wow. That word sums up my day of caching. We are in town visiting from Harriman, TN. We stayed last night in The Stanley and headed up to Mount Evans today. Simply awesome. Every stop was a panoramic picture of beauty. The snow falling on our faces up top was magical. We had mountain goats everywhere and some that crossed the road right in front of us. The park ranger was having a demonstration about the wildlife and let us hold a big horn sheep's skull. It was so worth the trip. Earns a favorite point.
I will submit answers for Kaput360 and Lullabye4u and Madvibe. TFTC

Mom and I found a good parking spot and walked around the main area. She headed back to the car but told me to take my time as I found the two caches up here. I took my time on the way up and enjoyed the celebrations going on up at the top. Took a few pictures before heading back down. Enjoyed my time at the top of the world!

My mom said she'd like to go to Mount Evans, she doesn't ask for much so I had her pick a date and today was the day. We started off slightly later than planned, but not really a big deal. Mom said she's seen mountain goats every time on Mount Evans, and this time didn't disappoint. We saw them on the way up, while we were at the top, and on the way down. Found all the caches I looked for, which always makes for a good day. Thank you to all the COs for my high altitude finds!
