When : Third Friday of September

POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action. It also seeks the return of the remains of fallen soldiers.

The first official commemoration of POW/MIAs was July 18, 1979. It was the result of resolutions passed in Congress. The first national ceremony was held on this date. Over the next several years, it was held in varying dates of the year. Finally, in 1986, The National League of Families proposed the third Friday in September as a day to recognize and remember POW/MIAs. This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars. Each year, the president of the United States issues a proclamation on this day.

Thanks, imusttravel2000, for placing and maintaining this cache. We found it in great shape and enjoy all the caches we find as a family.

For 2018 we are working on really getting back into Caching. To do this we are upping our enthusiasm and the number of our cache trips. This is cache number 6179 for us. We have also hidden 244 so we understand and appreciate the effort that goes into maintaining a cache. Thanks again and go have fun.

I've been working on finding more caches in February. I remembered coming over here in summer and being terrified I'd find a snake, so a cold winter day seemed like a good time to come back. As I walked over here from the last cache my face seemed to warm up a bit, or maybe just this area was a little warmer. This is one of those places where I just kept repeating, please don't drop anything, please don't drop anything... luckily I didn't! The cache is in good shape - signed the log and off to the next one. Thanks for the smiley! Find #2114.
