Rock climber at Rifle Park

Coulter Mesa is calling you to come up and enjoy the views at this often neglected bit of paradise. The turn off for Coulter Mesa is just past the beautiful 'Rifle Park' or about 4 miles North of the Fish Hatchery. The road is OK for most vehicles when dry but 4wd is recommended when muddy. In the winter the road is open to snowmobiles.
There is a short hike from the road to the cache location but the terrain is easy to navigate. The cache is small, camouflaged and placed on a small spruce above the normal snow level so snowmobilers and snowshoers can have easy access when winter settles in, it contains a log only - BYOP.

This is one of those no one will stumble upon. It is right where the coordinates say it is.

I finally got back to Coulter Mesa.
Opening day of elk archery season should I look for elk?
Heck no! I've been listening to Coulter Callin' to me for two years!
So, first thing in the morning I headed to George's Creek and sat out a short thunder storm at the cache.
I hope more people come up to Coulter Mesa to enjoy the great area and views.
I have been coming out here from Boston, MA almost every year since the early 90s to chase elk around the mountains.
Coulter Mesa is one of my most favorite places and the town of Rifle is great, over the years the locals have helped out us eastern flatlanders too many times to count.
I have never found so many wonderful friendly folks in one place.

Thanks for the cache, I'll be looking for more when I have the time;

Out playing on Coulter Mesa today so thought I'd stop by and check the cache; it's right where I left it and in good condition.
Happy Trails!

Had a great drive trying to find this one. The drive was beautiful and worth the trip but wondered if we would ever get there. Was quite windy but had a fun picnic near the site before drive back to camp at Rifle Falls. TFTC

This cache should teach me to check Geocaching.com before heading on a trip.
August 2007 Elk archery season I was camped 1400 feet from this cache without knowing it was there!

We did not come out last year but I'll be there this year August 27 setting up camp.

My hunting buddies thought I was nuts when I took a little side trip to Moab, Utah to grab a few caches. This year I won't have to go quite so far. :)

Eureka, finally got back up the hill with Tink & the Buggy. Coordinates were spot on! What a beautiful place. We came in from the North, just past the beehives and then walked down the slope to the cache. I can finally cross this one off. Thanks Darr, TNSL & left camo snake around the hanger to guard the cache.

March 22, 2008. Stage 4 in the Tour de DARR today. It wasn't that I didn't find it, more like I couldn't reach it. When I started, I thought I'ld heard Coulter Callin, but I didn't have very good cell service. In the end, it was calling and telling me to wait until summer. I hiked in from the parking lot, using the packed snowmobile tracks to keep from sinking in the snow. Made it to Coulter's Resort and spoke with the caretaker. Decision time, go home or consider it being about the half way point. Up the trail I went. On the way up the winds were gently blowing through the trees, the trees were swaying and the weather was beautiful. When I got to the cattle guard I knew I must be close, but alass, still three meadows to go. I reached the fork in the trail leading to the cache and all hope for success was lost. The south trail was completely snowed in and no tracks or trail could be found. I took a couple of pictures, turned around and started down. On the way down, the winds became bitter, my muscles began to burn and the shadows started to lengthen. A couple of sleds past me once I got down to the bottom and started the last 2 miles to the parking area, one even offered a ride. I had decide at the top that I would walk the whole way out, so I just kept putting one foot in front of the other. At the parking lot I fell into the Willy's and decided the rest of the Tour would have to wait. The only thing I needed now was a 12oz bottle of muscle relaxant. I will be back, but as the winds were trying to tell me on the way up, it will be in the spring and I'll be driving my buggy. Thanks for a great day of un-supervised fun DARR! And now for that medicine.

FTF! Excited about that. We went up the day after this was published, but by the time we got near the cache it was a monsoonal downpour so we aborted the mission. Although it did give us a chance to try out our new mode of transportation. The Xterra was awesome in the mud. Went back up today and the weather was beautiful. Your reputation as an incredible hider is still in tact. We had fun finding the cache. After the cache we continued around the loop past the Rifle cow camp to the Buford-New Castle road. Made for a awesome drive. Some great country up there. Thanks for a great cache location.
