Native American Tribe series.

Mattole

An Athapascan tribe whose principal settlements were along Bear and Mattole Rivers, California.  They resisted the white race more vigorously than the natives of this region generally did and suffered practical extermination in return.  They were gathered on a reservation near Mendocino for a time and some of them were afterward taken to Hupa Valley reservation.  A few still live in their old territory.  They differ somewhat from their Athapascan neighbors in language and culture; they burn the dead; the men tattoo a distinctive mark on the forehead, but in other respects they are similar to the Hupa.

This whole area looks fairly recent dug up and new rock places. I was actually able to find the container however the lid was missing, moved it to the north a bit by the barbed wire. TFTC

I went for a fun 27 mile bike ride today to find some caches and managed to find 20 including this one at 10:49 am 4 minutes after finding another cache. Thanks for the cache and for making my route more fun!

While the lid is fine on this film canister, it is missing its bottom. The log was fine though.
