The Little Blue Wizard has quite the lair in the rocks of Long Scraggy Peak. Too bad we dong had the magic abilities that he has to get there quicker.
I wondered why there was no cache in this area since it seemed like a neat place. I soon found out that all the access roads leading to the base of the peak have been closed. So the only access is a long hike from Co Rd 126.

The approach starts on the colorado trail at the intersection os 126 and Spring Creek Trail. Follow the Colorado trail North for .9 miles and then turn East at the top of the ridge. Follow that trail to the first way point which is placed there just incase they reopen the road some day I don't want anyone else to have an easier find. Then follow the trail down along the fence to the stream. Shortly after the stream crossing take a right and follow that trail, what is left of it, all the way to the summit of Scraggy Peak. I would suggest summiting the peak first then follow the ridge South to the second way point and then to the final.

The Approach would not be so bad if you didn't have to bring rappelling gear with you. I figured my pack with all my gear, water and the ammo can was just above 50 pounds.

At the first and second way point you will find a PVC with the coordinates on it inside of another PVC. Both are secured to the rock.

The final coordinates will get you to the anchor spot. from there the cache is about 20 meters down on the rock face. The ammo can is secured to the rock but be cautious when opening there are a couple of rocks inside to keep it from blowing away. Please replace the cache correctly so it doesn't fall out of the hole. I would recommend using an ascender to go back to the top since I am not sure if there is a way to walk back around. Use a 60 meter singe rope or longer.

Plan for a full day. I hiked 8.33 miles with 3,659 vertical gain and it took me just under 7 hours.

I am placing this cache in honor of three of my former students who were tragically shot this last week. Austin, Aaron and Wayne RIP.

We found the first stage on the beginning of this long hike. But, with no rappelling gear, we didn't attempt the second stage as suggested. We did make it to the top of Long Scraggy - and there was much joy. Not sure if we will ever be able to claim a find on this cache.

Well, that was interesting - it seemed like the thrills just kept on coming... I had a great day to go visit the wizard - there was no yellow brick road to get there, but that made it all the more fun. I knew when I looked on from the summit of Scraggy that the fun was just beginning, and I was right. Thanks for getting me off my butt and onto my bad knees for an interesting adventure in the mountains.

BTW, the cache was in fine shape, but I think maybe the wizard would like some more visitors. :-)
