This is a log-only cache on a easy but little-known wooded trail near the Town of Vail. The Vail Trail is a realtively short trail that runs along the edge of the forest from near the Vail Golf Course to under the Golden Peak lifts. It's a great walk in the summer and fall through the aspen. Right now, I’m a infrequent visitor to Vail, so I would ask anyone who finds it to post for the next visitor and e-mail me if it needs something, or needs to be moved, or whatever. Next time I'm there I’ll upgrade it, given that I’ll have more time to plan. And if you find the time, e-mail me with the denomination of the coin(s) in the cache. Thanks!
Parking may be a problem, especially during winter. Options are: Ride a bike, walk from the Ford Park parking or the parking garages, catch a ride, or take the shuttle bus to its eastern terminus and hike up the hill under the Riva Run lift to find the western end of the trail.
The steepness of the eastern end of the trail is the result of the trail being extended some years ago past its previous end when condos sprang up in its path. The extension, in MHO, was hastily constructed and lacked professional planning, hence the S-shaped chute that can be a challenge when it’s muddy or icy.
UPDATE 9-7-04: E-mail suggests there may be problems in finding the start of the trail. The eastern end is (approximately) N39 38.44 W106 20.69 and the western end is (very approximately) N39 38.25 W106 22.09. (These coordinates were taken off of a TOPOZONE map.)
UPDATE 9-29-04: Removed some of the more explicit hints.
UPDATE 7-12-08: I'm copying the log of FullTimeRVers here with their coordinate information. Thanks much! "I would place the east end of the Golden Peak Trail at N39 38.415 W106 20.685 where it intersects Sunburst Dr with a good sign post. There is also an unmarked but good access point to the trail at N39 38.349 W106 21.267 on Vail Valley Dr. I continued west on the trail. Later I passed a well worn trail that took off down and to the east, but figured that it was just another access point. I now suspect that it was the main trail ... oops. Would someone more familiar with the trail please confirm my suspicions. I continued straight west at that point and the trail became less worn, but it still continued. I came out above the village near a lift support pillar at N39 38.197 W106 21.892."
Camoed butter stick container, very near the south side of the trail.

07/18/2016 By BBA4 Found it this time... Great spot! But the lid broke off and dumped out the log book along with other stuff. The book was very wet and not usable. Will need replacement and I would also recommend a strip of tape along the hinge because it was broken.
