Got to this spot above tree line & it started getting windy and there was low clouds and a bit of sprinkles. This is where the "trail" (old 4WD road) ends. I found the cache, but it looks like the cairn has fallen over so not so easy to spot. The container is still a bit smashed but it is well covered by rocks.
I thought I would be closer to the top of Silverheels by now, but the cache at the summit was still 1.8 miles away as the crow flies which I imagined would take at least another 2 or more hours the way I hike uphill. Since the weather was not so great & I was by myself & I didn't know if there was any trail at all I decided I had better turn around here. Will probably never make the summit as that will probably be at least a 10-12 mile RT hike and a gain of another 1,600' from where I got to at 12,200'

Found today hiking Silverheels. Cache container is still damaged but at least its still there, wish we had a replacement with us. FYI, in 2008 when this cache was created it might have been 4x4 accessible, but today this road is closed to motorized vehicles so plan on hiking.

Attempted this... But even in the Jeep, not enough clearance. Not Sure it was the right way to go anyway, as I did find a more direct route, but that was closed to moterized vehicles. We'll come back and try this again.

Wing and Tales and I found this one on the way up Mt. Silverheels. It was in need of some maintenance, which we provided as best we could. Thanks to QueenZelda & Cub Boy for placing this one for us to find!

A 4x4 won't get you here the way we tried it today. We parked at N39° 17.951 W106° 01.165 when we found the road blocked beyond that point. There may be another way to drive it but we just decided to hike it from there. It was a great day to hike Silverheels. We found the cache in the open and slightly chewed up. We put an extra bag around the log and put it under enough rock to discourage the critters for a while. TFTC
