Construction on Denver's High Line Canal was originally completed in 1883, a mere 24 years after the gold rush that sparked white settlement in the Cherry Creek and South Platte River area. The original canal covered 71 miles, in what is now Douglas, Arapahoe, Denver, and Adams counties, and irrigated 20,000 acres. The canal loses about two feet of elevation for every mile it covers. Denver Water took over the canal in 1924, and maintains management of the canal.

These old Cottonwoods have been here for maybe over 100 years. The log only micro cache is in the wrinkled bark.

Gave this one a favorite point because it was clever. Thanks a lot.

Grabbed a few of the caches on the high line canal trail with NTM this afternoon, enjoying the somewhat warm weather. We parked at the park that is at the intersection of Peoria and Del Mar Pkwy and made our way down the trail. The trail is paved, so we passed a number of bikers. It was a productive morning. Thanks for all the caches.

With a few errands to run and a few caches in the Denver and Aurora area. We decided to go ahead and clean them up before heading over to have lunch at La Cueva. Coords had me in the middle of the 2 cottonwoods. So, After several minutes of searching each one, I finally spotted this well hidden smiley. It probably was laughing at me as I passed it at lease 3 times. Very nice hide, SL,TFTC
