Looking for a way to beat the summer heat? This is it. This cache is located at approximately 12,365 feet, on one of the highest summits in the area.
Bring a camera, and enjoy great views in all directions.

There are several ways to reach this cache. The easiest involves driving a rough jeep road (Mt. Baldy Road) and parking at the gate to Stratton Reservoir. The road will get you above tree line, and you'll have a relatively short 2.5 mile roundtrip hike.

If you are ready for a challenge, park at the intersection of Gold Camp Road and Mt. Baldy Road (N 38 44.458' W104 57.366'), and bike the road to the summit. This is about a 15 mile ride, and would make the terrain rating about a 4.

Plan on being off the summit before the afternoon thunderstorms roll in. I hit the summit at 12:30, and the lightning strikes were getting too close for comfort.

Wow! 15 years! Well thanks for a cache up at the north end of the hike around Stratton Sand Pit ...(I mean dry as a bone!!). It had turned a bit cloudy for a while by now ... maybe more forest fire smoke than water cloud!! Certainly was windy enough to blow smoke in, anyway.
Two guys on 4-wheel atv's had made it here via ... ??? and were finishing up lunch as I started to search they were off. No one around when I came up with the ammo can; WELL concealed in the walls of the kiva/ fire pit... it looks like it's also the home of the summit log now too. Lots of signatures since the last online logs.
I put 'er back safe, snug & waiting BigSmile

!! TitoCache dropped a TB on 19JUNE of 2010 that was still here in the cache !!!!

After a very long hike from seven bridges, Javachip and I found both the mayo jar and the ammo box. The ammo box is about 14 ft east of the GZ. The mayo Jar is probably just a summit log and it was very wet! TFTC!

Container was a mayo jar...not a ammo can, per the hint. Great view. Got down just before the lightening & rain. Last hike up last year we got caught in a hail storm. Love the flowers up there...saw two marmots, lots of chipmunks & squirrels. Great hike!

We haven't geocached in awhile and actually weren't even geocaching when we found this! Our 12 year old son found it just by checking out the area, but we knew what it was directly when we saw the container. FYI, it is NOT the mayo jar you see easily. This cache takes a little more looking, but not terribly difficult for the beginner-intermediate. I especially appreciated the BAND-AIDS included in the cache!

I was worried after the DNFs but found the mayo jar easily. Looks like muggle hikers have been signing slips of paper inside. Left the lady huddled behind a rock at Male Pattern Baldyness, must hurry back. TFTC

Found this on a hike up to the top 9/29/10, before I was a cacher. I knew what it was, but had not taken the caching plunge. Huge mayo jar with paper was my first cache found Unofficially. Had I signed it, it would have been my highest to date also.

no love. three of us looked for a bit, but we summited way too late and needed to start back before requiring head lamps. could be under several snow drifts, shifted under the talus, or just gone in the wind.

Since my car wasn't up to driving 379, I drove up 376 and parked just short of the gate where it meets 379 and hiked from there. I think it is slightly longer than parking on Old Stage and hiking up 379 but there is much less altitude gain. I was bummed not to find the cache after the long walk to get there. I used both the posted coords and some from an old log and looked at everything within about 50 feet of both of those. It's probably there but it's too long a hike to go back and try again.
