One of the best rock/sport climbing areas in the state - bar none! You won't need ropes to hit this, but take your equipment anyway and enjoy this canyon.
Cache is a regular-sized ammo can with a custom paint job. It is 1/2 mile hike to the cache from the parking area, and you will pass some spectacular sport climbs on your way to the cache. No ropes or special climbing equipment is needed to find the cache, but hey, if you got it... use it!!! I love this area for its climbs - some of the best ones are: "Tanks for the huecos", "How the west was won", "Captain America", and "Not my cross to bear". The route to the cache is not dangerous, but PLEASE do not venture off trail to explore the cliffs unless you have equipment. Watch your kids and pets as well so they don't go near the cliffs.

Also, I have placed a birthday present for the daughter of fellow geocacher earthman0_0 in the cache. Please leave the present there if you find it, and allow this cacher to find it. Thank you. Feel free to take any other cache item, however, including the following original items: flashlight, toy lion, rubber bouncing balls, CD carrying case, calculator, Hot Wheels cars, and a dog throw toy.

 Hints

Take the Rock Garden Trail. Cache is on a high point with a great view of the SLV, near a lone pinon pine.

Great spot! Once I got on the right ridge, I walked right to it. Picked up the traceable moose and will move him along. TFTC.

Loneranger made a stop at this favorite cache to trade TB'S. Cleaned out some trash, deleted an inappropriate muggle log, and rehid so it is less visible. Loneranger always loves coming to this spot.

This is one of 3 caches just north of Penitente Canyon, one of Colorado's premier sport climbing areas. Best to visit here on a weekday as parking is limited - even then, if the weather is decent there should be some climbers at work. After a fairly wet spring the canyon was awash in flowers and flowering shrubs, and the plant diversity is excellent. There is a complex web of trails, but the Penitente Canyon - Blue Sky Loop might be the best, and leads to 2 of the 3 caches. This cache isn't far from the main trail up the canyon, but most non-climbers will have to find another way (still near a trail, fortunately). The view of the Valley and Sangres is indeed very good.
