icezebra11 and I have talked about getting out for a good mountain hike together, for quite awhile. It's been too long. So we've explored some options that would take us to a nice mountain summit, or to a good backcountry cache. Well, this as well as the cache at the top of Bergen Peak satisfied both of these goals! The one at the summit has been on our radar for a long time, and we then became super excited to discover that this great cache, having been hidden in July 2001, was along our hiking route! Wow! So my puppies Orizaba and Chimborazo and I headed south from Wellington this morning to rendezvous with Brad and his pup Angel at our standard ParknRide meet-up spot in Loveland, and headed for the Evergreen area. It has been a wonderful spring day for hiking, and we proceeded steadily up the trail system catching this and another cache en route to the summit. After a leisurely lunch and a couple of phone calls from the top, we searched for and found that treasure before making our way down to parking and the drive home through congested Denver traffic. We again stopped and rested near this great oldie durning our descent, talking further about what a great gift it was to be added to our hike. Thanks so much for it, Bob, Austin, Anna, and Jack! I have great admiration for the hiders and caretakers of the early geocaches, and I salute you! I'm so pleased that it's been cared for so well over all these years! Hopefully, icezebra11's maintenance actions will have preserved it for a longer period.

Denali41, his puppies Zaba and Chimi, my puppy Angel and I had a great hike today to Bergen Peak. The weather was very pleasant and we were happy to have the cloud cover at times to keep the heat down. This cache and Bergan Peak were our two primary objectives. It was really neat finding this fantastic "oldie"! When we arrived at GZ we found the cache out in the open with the lid off and the contents spread out. The container still had some items in it but it had a fair amount of water in it also. Fortunately the log book was in a ziplock bag and was completely dry. After signing the book we put everything back in order and re-hid the cache. All should be well again. Thanks Bob, Austin, Anna, andJack for keeping this old cache going all these years!!!

I'm the dumbest geocacher ever! Although this was a logical find, I approached it through the forest from below. It would have been much easier if I continued along the trail. Duh!!! Anyway, it was a fun find!

It looks like I get to log the 200th find on this excellent, old cache. It's hard to believe it hasn't seen more visitors in that time. This is a great place to hike and enjoy the views. TFTC
