Are there any acorns up here? I don’t know but there are plenty of aspen to keep things colorful among the beetle killed pines. And at the time the cache was placed the area was thick with wildflowers, especially Columbines.
Take a fairly easy hike (less than 1 mile) on the Acorn Creek Trail to reach the cache. The views of the Gore Range to the west are amazing. Not far from here the trail enters Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness area and eventually gains the ridge south of Ute Peak, 4 miles from the trailhead. The trail gets quite a bit steeper after entering the wilderness area but the views are worth it.

Directions: From HWY 9 approximately 10 miles north of Silverthorne turn right onto CR 2400 (Ute Park Rd, not Ute Pass Rd). At the first junction, continue left following the trailhead sign. Then turn right onto CR 2402 (Rodeo Dr) and travel approximately 0.6 miles to the trailhead/parking lot on the left.
nuvi took me right to the parking co-ords.

Always fun to find a cache that hasn't been logged in a several years. The next geocacher should bring along a new container as their is only one side that is secured. A favorite for the nice hike and views.

TFTC, SL We were following the footsteps of Youkfish who found the 5 caches yesterday, 2 at Ute pass & 3 at Acorn creek. We hiked from Ute Pass to Acorn Creek about 25 years ago. This time we drove between the two!

I enjoyed this nice hike and cache after a meeting in Breckenridge and on my way north. Nobody else around to enjoy the great views with me. Right where it was described to be. Cheers!

Easy find. The lid no longer locks on the container but the contents were dry. Did not go much further along the trail because many downed trees blocking the trail and one geodog almost impaled herself on one. Gorgeous hike with great views! TFTC!

Very nice area to hike in. Didn't make it to Ute Peak!
