So you've been considering my geotrail (Historic Glen Haven GeoTrail.) and wanting to pick up another local geocoin, but a couple of those caches sure do look a long way off. You thought, "Too far. No way I'm doing that!" And yes, this one is a long way IF you have to go by way of the Dunraven Glade trailhead, which is how you're supposed to get there, but I live in this housing development and I'm going to give you a boost.
While you're free to get to the event any way you can, I plan to take a group up myself. For those who want to come with me, we'll meet at 8 am at the parking coords, then car pool down to a different trailhead. (Please car pool to my house if you can; there isn't much parking there.) It should take about 2 hrs to reach the cache and event site, and the 3-4 mile hike is a fairly easy one along the Miller Fork Creek. Bring your dog, some kids, and a picnic lunch.
After lunch and some poking about the artifacts -- there's an old boiler and steam engine there, in addition to the cache -- we'll head back and should reach the parking area around 1 pm, just before the thunderstorms hit.
Put on your hiking boots and relearn how to use a real GPS (no cell service in Glen Haven!) and come for a nice hike through the forest. It'll be fun and a great way to get started on the geotrail!
