This virtual cache is located on the east side of Hwy 550 between Red Mountain Pass and Ouray. This memorial recognizes a group of men who have done their jobs by night and day, with most of us never giving a second thought to.

To claim this cache, please email me the answers to the following questions.

1. What is the picture etched on the memorial of?
2. How many have died?

there is also a bronze marker just to the left of this one that is in memory of Rev. Marvin Hudson.

3.What were his daughters names?

Headed West today (well ok - and a little North too), taking a route that only a geocacher would understand. I stopped here to take a break from the driving - and of course to find this cache. I had just gotten by some vehicles pulling trailiers, but decided that I need to stop here even if I'd get stuck behind them again. I was glad I did stop! This was a very nice memorial for those impacted. Thanks for the nice virtual!

Email sent.

We are in town from Texas and hoped to spend a few days on the trails but due to the surprising amounts of snow this late in the season, we did more driving than off roading! Decided to grab a cache and we always love the places virtual take us. Thanks so much for bringing us to this memorial.

Had heard about this memorial too these brave workers. Glad there was a cache here so that we knew where to stop. An email with the answers to the questions was sent on June 24th. Thanks for the effort to put this cache together! Gets a favorite point.

We are travelling around Colorado on our first trip to the USA enjoying the beautiful countryside and doing some caching along the way.
Today we drove from Grand Junction to Mesa Verde going along some of the high parts of the Million Dollar Highway.
This cache has a nice large pull in and we soon gathered the necessary information which has been sent to the CO.
Thanks to them for maintaining this venerable old cache . We always enjoy a virtual cache.

I dropped Jenn off at Stony Pass this afternoon so she can do the last 93 miles or so of the Colorado Trail. I'll pick her up next Saturday at the end of the trail near Durango.

On my way back to Colorado Springs, I stopped to find a select few caches, including this one.

I think this is our first cache find in Ouray County.

Answers have been sent. Spotted a cool benchmark in the rock just north of this virtual cache.

Favorite point awarded.

TFTC!

Tragic story but glad there is a memorial to tell the tale. Sketchy road at night. Thanks.

Yesterday our bike tour tried to ride from Ouray to Durango but were thwarted by mudslides near this cache. Today we rode the route in reverse, which ended with a long, fun descent until we got to the remnants of the cleanup process, where we had to stop for flaggers and such. I was afraid I'd missed this memorial, but found it behind a few temporary pieces of staged equipment. Answers on the way.
