My #5848 with David with {FTF} at 3:30pm. We live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. However, my Mom used to live at Elk Falls Ranch and then was a caretaker at Davis Ranch before it became Staunton State Park. My kids grew up visiting Grama’s horse ranch on South Wamblee Valley Road (Richmond Hill area). Although my daughter now lives in Denver, she has hiked Rosalie and is aware of this area. We would come out to visit my mom every summer, and I’d geocache. I adopted an old cache on the Burning Bear Trail off the road over Guanella Pass. So I live in Pennsylvania but have ties to here.

I’m in the area for the National Order of the Arrow Conference in Boulder next week. We decided today would be a good day to check on my caches off Burning Bear Trail. We also wanted to see bighorn sheep, and two small groups of them obliged. We had a great 5-mile hike with no cell service, so when we got down to Grant, I stopped to check my phone for mail and also if there happened to be any FTFs available on our way back to Denver. I saw this one. Woot!

I read the description and hint. I asked Google to make a route. I think we were about 14 miles away as the eagle flies. But we had planned to stop by Coney Island in Bailey for nostalgia. My mom would take the kids there when it was in Aspen Park. So we stopped to get ice cream and mostly ate it there. Then we got back on the road. I’ve been up Deer Creek Road many many years ago, but not this far back. I kept wondering whether we would see Lion’s Head; I didn’t. My hybrid Camry was happy that most of the roads were paved.

So I pull up at this 1/1 cache and said “But of course”. Now where would I put it? I searched longer than needed. Duh. It’s a 1/1. Five mile hike to my caches; maybe a 5 foot walk to this one. I think my biggest difficulty was rolling up the log. I’m terrible with tiny logs. Getting the time and date and my signature in the space was a little tight. But I did it. And then folks who I believe were the cache owners said “Hi” and we traded greetings. Well done hide. I’m adding a favorite point. I hope you get more finders than I get on mine. Mine get about one find a year. Thank you for the adventure. I’ll add a picture of the sheep and the view from my cache (The Nest - GCC611). TFTC.
