Devil’s Playground Cache
Easy cache to find, hard cache to get to. There are two ways to get this one. The EASY WAY or the FREE WAY.
Elevation: about 12,000ft
Cache: Red Ammo Can
The Free Way
Start at the crags trail head. a bit down the road the trail will fork, take trail 664A. Because of the rocks in the area, the signal might be getting bounced around.

The cache is hidden on the underside of a semi small boulder which flat on top. Just your typical small ammo box, painted red. The original contents were some army ration portions, Log Book, Compass, 2 35m film canisters, 1 roll of rubber tape "very good for repairs, take only a portion",a copy of a local band's CD VelvetRut, and a couple copies of Metallica's St. Anger.
• This is a great place for tourists to come (easy way) because it's a pretty easy hike from the road.
• Locals will love it because it's a great hike (free way) with awesome views!
This is high elevation hiking so make sure you prepare properly, hikers have died on this mountain.

Got an early start from the Crags trailhead this morning and had a very nice hike up to Devil's Playground. Weather was perfect, so I took several detours once up top (and on the way down) to pick up some nearby caches. My goodness, some of these have been lonely for a while! Great to finally avenge my DNF on this one!! Found it about 60' away, out in the open! Many muggles had signed it since the last cacher. I brought it back to GZ and placed where the description/hint indicated. Thank you for placing this cache!

Was spectating PPIHC 2019 when they directed us to cove creek saying the devils playground was full. I decided I wanted to see from up higher and took a scramble up cove creek to the ridge and found this on the way. Had ironically found my first geocache 2 days prior and didn't realize this was another one. After making my way to the playground and down to the crags and back up again, I stopped off at the cache on my way back to the car and left a rusty nail that was laying on a rock a fair distance away. Great spot, cool ammo box. Still has a Velverut CD in there as well as a flight simulator 98, condom and $1 bill. Will visit again sometime

Was surprised to see that this hadn't been found in almost a year (despite being a popular spot), but decided that with the good hint provided and guidance from a previous finder that I would make a quick detour for this one. GZ was holding steady for the whole 15-20 mins that I looked, and I saw two excellent potential hiding places there, but did not find the cache in either or in any of the spots I checked in a 75' radius. Uncertain if it walked off or if I just had a really off day.

Wow, what a day. Weather, views, sights and caches. The plan was to take advantage of the weather and find some Pikes Peak caches. Particularly at the Devil's Playground. After visiting the Survivor Tree and conversing with the bear, this was the next stop. The view was great. Thanks for placing a cache here

Came up from the "free way", had a great hike with a few breaks along the way (no, I'm not suck a big stud that I did the hike without a break). Had no problems with coordinates, I guess the Devil likes pohka's . The real fun was once the trail leveled out I was able to move pretty quickly to the cache area. Told my son about the hike and where I went, he said it's called the Devils Playground due to all the iron in the rock drawing lightening strikes and the lightening dancing from rock to rock after a strike. Appreciate the placement, time to move on.

Happy 14TH Birthday just passed !! Way to go, and glad to get to add my Oregon Green ink Smile Smile

Thanks! are due and due again to several CO's for another excellent outing on the peak. I stayed mostly at a 'drove-to' altitude. Saw a ton of tiny tundra plants in real nice bloom; listened to the resident birds and rodents all day; hardly heard a man made noise the whole time; and then had to make one scootin' hike back to parking to get layers and rain gear on.
But UH OH! I'm on a motorcycle !!! Well anyway I got below tree line before all the lightning really cranked up!
Became trouble, for a motorcyclist!

Another beautiful day in the mountains

This one needed to be rescued because whoever found it last, cacher or not, did not put it away as was intended. I was able to end my major cache trek today with this cache in the start of a typical summer afternoon downpour here in CO, especially on the mtn! Of course, you could not go much further than this cache because of the shear drop off to the road below! In the end, I rehid the cache as described and got my smiley from the find! The was a great end to a great day of memories along the ridge!!

Independence day caching with Zeppo! Visiting from Dallas, Texas, In the area for geowoodstock, After a few hours at the peak we decided to grab a few caches on the way back down. After a quick Bridget grab we talked about heading to the Thinner Air cache. Soon after we were on our way. While walking down the trail we saw this cache and decided to make a detour,.

Quick find at GZ.

Thanks for the smiley.

I drove up Pikes Peak specifically to hike around Devil's Playground & find caches. I knew the chances for lightening, for which this area is named, this time of year were slim but a pretty serious snow squall was in progress when I got to the parking lot. After finding the two close caches I decided it wouldn't be wise to go further by myself without good winter clothes on. So I went down to the ski area cache & the weather cleared in about an hour so I went back up & had a great afternoon, but I couldn't get as far as I wanted as they close the top by 4:00. Great views up here too, that's for sure.
