Dogs and Bikes are permitted along the paved Riverway Park paths but may not enter the memorial park area. Bike and "Puppy Parking" is provided at the entrance to the memorial park. There is no entry fee. The memorial park is closed from Nov 1 to March 31 every year in deference to its wildlife sanctuary status. PLEASE RESPECT THE PURPOSE AND LIMITATIONS OF THIS BEAUTIFUL PARK.PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION FOR IMPORTANT ACCESS INFORMATION. Thanks!
MEMORIAL PARK: This 60 acre town park (once private land) was presented by the Weaver Family for the use of the public for hiking trails, picnic-ing, as a wildlife refuge, and as a memorial to the world-famous actor, environmentalist, humaniarian, and local Ridgway resident, Dennis Weaver (1924-2006). The centerpiece of the park is a 2800 pound anatomically-correct bronzed flying eagle, with a 21-foot wingspan flying above a 15 foot-high stone cairn, surrounded by a huge traditional stone Native-American Medicine Wheel. Visitors are invited to participate in helping to create piles of "Prayer Stones" that can be seen throughout the park (instructions are provided on a plaque at the entrance to the medicine-wheel area). While in this park, look for the River Loop Trails to the south of the memorial, and the Old Stagecoach Road Trail north of the memorial. For more information about about this park, and about the lifetime achievements & career of Dennis Weaver, please visit www.dennisweaver.com , his official website. Restrooms and picnic tables are located in the nearby Uncompahgre Riverway Park.

06/12/2019 By Team Tierra Buena On the tail end of a month-long road trip that took us from our home in Phoenix to GeoWoodstock in Fort Worth and family in St. Louis and Denver. Today we left Montrose for Valley of the Gods, Utah.
Absolutely loving the drive through this part of Colorado. Enjoyed the park and the scenery. (We're old enough to remember Dennis Weaver from his Gunsmoke days. Had a lovely little hike to the cache which we found without too much trouble. TNL a trackable. Thanks for the cache.
