This fun Wherigo cartridge puts a new spin on the classic Colorado myth of the Slide-Rock Bolter. Enjoy the tale of this creature, but beware of it as you hike and cache in Colorado's beautiful mountainscape.  Cache will require a decent amount of driving and a moderate hike at the end.  Check the attributes and description before attempting!

This cache is NOT at the posted coordinates! Please don't try swimming for the cache. You MUST download the Wherigo Cartridge to a compatible Wherigo device in order to play this real-world adventure game and locate the cache.

The Slide-Rock Bolter is a fearsome creature who lives in the Colorado Mountains. It is described as a creature with slits where it's eyes should be, and a wide mouth full of long sharp teeth. It uses a forked tail to hold onto the tops of the steep mountain peaks, where it waits to attack its prey.

Early depictions of this creature were of a giant fish-shaped animal - sometimes as large as the mountain slope it was perched atop of. Although modern-day sightings were extremely rare, it has been most recently described as 'Colorado's Anaconda' - more like a snake than a fish. I can still slide down the mountaintops on the scree at an incredible speed, and uses that momentum to capture its prey off-guard.

Lately, there have been an increasing number of disappearances in the Colorado mountains. From wandering tourists to mountaineers, it seems the Bolter is back and eating more unsuspecting victims than ever! The folks at Lake Granby want to be known as a safe location for Colorado tourists to stay, and they need your help to guarantee that claim!

Since cellular service may be limited in the areas where you will be caching, don't forget to download this cartridge from Wherigo.com before you go out on your adventure. This cartridge will require some driving, a moderate hike towards the end, and the final will involve some minor scrambling on loose rocks.   Most importantly, stay safe.

Today halllilley and I stayed in the Grand Lake area and found a few caches around the town. I enjoyed this Wherigo and for us it worked just fine, although the distance to the final was quite the surprise for us. Otherwise, halllilley summarized our adventure in his log. TFTC. #1213. SL.

Today lilleyhall and I stayed in the Grand Lake area and found a few caches around the town. This was a fun Wherigo that worked as advertised, except after completing it we did not get a completion code. We were lucky and talked to the people in the correct order and did not have to do any backtracking. After the 13 or so mile drive to see the Ranger, we thought we were looking at a 500 foot hike to the final. That was a serious misconception as it ended up being a 1.7 mile round trip hike, although there was no bushwhacking required. Once we were committed to the hike, there no turning back as we had already come so far. Where the trail forked, we picked the correct trail to follow. Every time we arrived at a new zone, it was just a stepping stone along the route. Finally we arrived at the zone where we were able to slay the Slide-Rock Bolter. For the folks at Lake Granby, it is now a safe location to resume your tourist activities. This was a feel good find as it has been 11 months since it was last logged. Added to my favorite list. TFTC. #6322. SL.

Despite our learned reluctance to do Where I Gos we agreed to participate in this marathon road tour back and forth across the forest land and forest roads. Great story. Great fun.
Criticism: This uses a lot of gas. No need to create travel back and forth for miles. The zones were good.

Warning for those nearing the end of the adventure: Bring resources, water, snacks, and the other hiking essentials before going the last 500'. It turns out to be nearly a mile one way. (We were (mis) led into a dangerous situation where hikers were tired and without sustenance).

Maybe Ranger Dan could include a warning about always bringing the ten essentials, even if the next stage is only 500' away.

I do appreciate the creativity. Thanks.

Met up with a group of other monster slayers at Ranger Dan, and was able to work with them to slay the creature. Fortunately we all survived the adventure. Thanks for the fun WIG!

Found while out hiking with Team Tiger Pride, Honeybuzzed, Pixel Magic, and Barasaur. No idea it was going to be so long - in the end, took over 3.5 hrs and made us a little late for the potluck. Nice hike, just wish we'd had more warning of it! TFTC!
