!! Exciting New Cache Series!!
"COLORADO
SPIRIT QUEST"
The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many
individuals, near cemeteriesand historic sites in hopes of paying
respect to the many pioneer ancestors thathave 'walked' before
us.
There are
hundreds ofcemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across
Colorado. This series will introduce you to many of
them.
Thecache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the
cemeteries andtombstones.
COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit
Quest'group. Special thanks and credit are given to
SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea
has rapidly spread into many states.
The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It
cannot be accomplished by just one or two people. This
project will only flourish if there is a multitude ofvolunteer
cachers willing to place these caches.
Afterlocating the cache container, take some time to reflect back
on the lives ofthose pioneers and the effort it took to make
Colorado such a great state.
Ifyou are interested in joining the "Walking Through History Clan"
contact may bemade by sending an e-mail to the owner of "Colorado
Spirit Quest #1 -
Mo
untainPassage". Use the 'Send Message" link at the center of
the page of theirprofile.
Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its
maintenance.
REMEMBER:
If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries - AVOID this
series.

In 1880 Charles R. Bissil conveyed to the Town of Monument a
five-acre tract of land that had been used as a cemetery since
1874. The deed was dated May 28, 1880 and recorded the same day in
Book 50, Page 237 with El Paso County Clerk and Recorder. In 1889,
a newspaper correspondent wrote from Monument, “Hitherto the dead
were buried indiscriminately no one having a lot and families have
consequence therefore became badly mixed. Hereafter, a certain sum
will be required for each lot and the money derived there from will
be used for the improvement of the cemetery. The council fixed the
price of lots at $10.00 each and hired a sexton at $5.00 per year
to take care of the cemetery.”
