Native American Tribe series.
Ais

The Ais, or Ays were a tribe of Native Americans who inhabited the Atlantic Coast of Florida as early as 2000 B.C. They ranged from present day Cape Canaveral to the St. Lucie Inlet, in the present day counties of Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie and northernmost Martin. They lived in villages and towns along the shores of the great lagoon called Rio de Ais by the Spanish, and now called the Indian River.

Little is known of the origins of the Ais, or of the affinities of their language. The Ais language has been tentatively assigned by some authors to the Muskogean language family, and by others to the Arawakan language family. Shortly after 1700 settlers in Carolina started raiding the Ais to capture slaves. By 1743, when the Spanish established a mission among them, the Ais numbers were declining due to slave raids, disease and rum. The Ais were gone from the area by 1760.

I love an ammo can in the woods. Lots of shooting going on. I wish I had brought a gun to do a little target practice. SL TFTC

Came to Lakewood to visit Son and Grandsons. All well at this cache. I put together a query from Estes Park south to Idaho Springs. We are working on that today. Hello from OKC!

We cached our way up Lefthand Canyon to the Morning meet and greet. Off-Road? Event. At the event we were discussing about the 4X4 caches everyone wanted to do after the event. We had already gathered some caches that we wanted to get done up to and around Brainard Lake so we parted ways. We thought we might run into everyone once we completed what we wanted to do and sure enough we saw the group on the Caribou Trail. We joined waawhoo, GotYour6, Memfis Mafia, Back Country Horsemen, and Honeybuzzed to complete the trail. We had a great time 4 wheeling, caching and enjoying the mountain weather. We replaced a few caches that had numerous DNF's and one that had a broken container and no log. Signed some of the logs with our stamp and some with the group of Tobin's Event. TFTC, TNLN
