Wow! What a 'hike!' More of a climb/scramble for the most part. Made it up with the family from North Carolina. Longest 1/4 mile so far.

New coordinates to try to minimize muggles:

In the early-to-mid 1970s I performed certain of the environmental studies associated with the power plants that were under consideration for the region (and are now operating south of Craig). For a couple of winters we made weekly aerial censuses of deer and elk populations in the area, to ascertain specific areas where the animals were concentrating their winter activities so these identified areas could remain outside activity zones for power plant construction and operation. I flew over Bears Ears Peaks and their vicinity many times, and always admired the peaks a great deal. For decades I've thought about returning to climb or hike up to the higher peak's summit. I almost had time to do this on one of my two hikes up nearby Black Mountain, but the timing never actually worked.
This new cache gave me the added incentive to make this special hike. Yes, it’s a pretty intimidating view when one rounds the last curve along the road and sees the west face of the Anita 2 peak of Bears Ears looming so sharply above the end of the road. Yikes! I parked and made the ascent with my puppy Orizaba, quickly finding the cache and signing the log sheet as the first geocacher to sign in. It was nice bagging the FTF. Because the cache box is located immediately next to the summit register, non-caching muggles who had been to the summit and had signed the summit register also had opened the cache and signed its log book. Unfortunately, they have taken most of the listed SWAG items. As a suggestion, Adamsfamily777 might wish some day to move the cache a little away from the very top and post revised coordinates, to minimize finds by muggles. This is always a problem when caches are placed at the true summits, because people whose objective is to climb a peak almost always want to sign something! And a geocache log will suit them just fine...
Thanks for this great cache. It really “worked” for me–I finally went up to the top of Bears Ears Peaks after thinking about it for 40 years!

FTF ?.
Enjoyed the climb it took a little longer than than the first time 35 years ago but the view is worth it.
I was glad that someone left a bottle of water as we were out when we reached the top. I have been thinking of placing a cache on sugar loaf for years but maybe the Adamsfamily will. TFTC

Just got back from sunny, then very wet Colorado. Got on the mountain late yesterday. took a short walk this Morning and came to the x-roads to get a phone signal this afternoon. Left the camper at the x-roads to see how far it would be to the cache, I had a full canteen but Four Bears did not grab one and it was getting hot out. At the base of the big Bears Ear I said it was to the top or drop, so we started up with Four Bears leading. This would be our 3rd trip to the top of this ear at the ages of 68 and 72 we felt that it was very do-able. Made it up to the top, found the cache in good shape, the swag was still all there including a bottle of water that we devoured, several names were on the log, so I do not think we were the FTF. TFTC, great job Adamsfamily777.
