On June 27, 2007 a tornado touched down in Teller county, which is a pretty unusual occurrence for this area. It cut a path through the forest leaving a wide area of destruction and uprooted trees.
From Hwy. 67 in Woodland Park, go west on Painted Rocks Rd. (CR 78). From there, turn onto Forest Rd. 357 and follow your GPS. You will drive through the Hayman fire area. It is awesome to see what destruction Mother Nature is capable of: both wildfires and tornados. On the other hand, the day the cache was placed, the wildflowers were amazing. It reminded me of the Beauty and the Beast.

Nice spot for a cache.

I changed the container to a bigger, plastic, Country Time Lemonade container with camo tape.

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.

Since it looks like nursegirl hasn't been active for a while, maybe the next cacher who has this one on their list can take a new container for it. It needs to be about 3"x3"x2".

Found this cache after a short search in an interesting area. It surprised me to see that most of the fallen trees had been cleared. There is a similar area at the Devil's Head trailhead where they have left the fallen trees. It seems odd to me that this happened twice in less than 10 years, and only about 12 miles apart. As noted by a previous cacher, the cache container needs a lid. The log was in a torn baggie, but was dry. I replaced the baggie, but that will only keep it dry for a short time. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for bringing us to this area and placing the cache so that we can play!

Even without the lid the log was doing OK. Thanks for another cache up here.

TFTC! Went for a drive and decided to see if this one was still there. Lo and behold it was, container missing the lid but signed the replacement log. Thanks for the twister info, pretty cool to see the uprooted trees and damage. Place another smiley on the cache map.

Got to chat with some firefighters on fire watch from this vantage point while looking for the cache.

Another great hide up here in Woodland Park. Not a cloud in the sky. Gear hide. TNLN
