Dawson Butte Open Space offers more than 10 miles of trails including a network of bridle paths with over 60 horse jumps. Although there is no access to the top of the butte at this time, the Dawson Butte Ranch Trail meanders 5 miles through forested areas and meadows with good views of the Front Range. A map is available at the Douglas County Open Space website.

The park is open from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. The trail allows hiking, mountain bikes, horses, and dogs on leashes.

This cache is placed at one of the named horse jumps on the Stairway to Heaven Path about 1.7 miles from the trailhead. Per Douglas County Open Space regulations, the cache is placed within 10 feet of the trail. In fact, you do not have to set foot off the trail to retrieve the cache. You wouldn't want to anyway-- some of the oak thickets have poison ivy underneath.

I visited this cache today and found the original container so I removed the temporary pill bottle. Added additional log sheets. It’s good to go! Cache is as shown here, directly underneath.

After exploring Castlewood Canyon with YamaGypsy this morning, I headed over to check out this area. After a very rough week, this is exactly what I needed...open space for a (much needed) trail run, perfect weather, beautiful views as far as the eye can see, and a TON of caches! What a great day for exploring this gorgeous state we get to call home. Cache is in great shape, thanks for placing it! Took me a while to find because I thought "surely it's not there..." (surely, it was)!

Thanks for the fun cache! Out for a nice Friday Hike with the better half of KJKlock. We met up after work to do the loop! Nice area that I've never been to! Perfect weather, not too hot! We enjoyed the caches we found. Signed and replaced as found. All is well Here!
