This geocache is a quick little cache with historical information about Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Update: Congratulations to csi3 for the first to find!!! Update2: We updated the coordinates so it is easier to find, thank you Walking Duo!

The origin of the word Yankee. There are several theories as to the origin of the word, but the prevailing theory is that was a dismissive reference by the British towards American colonists and the Dutch origins of many northeast settlers. It is believed to be a corruption of Janke, or little Jan, a common Dutch name.

The song "Yankee Doodle Dandy" became popular among the British as well as the rebels. A doodle was a simpleton and the phrase "stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni" implied the backwoods bumpkins could put a feather in their coonskin hats and think they were as elegant as European in the latest Italian style -- the "macaroni."

The American army embraced the derisive song and when Gen. Cornwallis' troops surrendered at Yorktown to end the war, they march out of the fort playing "The World Turned Upside Down." They were met by an American band playing "Yankee Doodle Dandy."

Taken from an article on ABC.

We hope you enjoy this cache!

We didn't know if we were gonna come up with this one since the cords were so far off, then nerak2001 spotted it! Glad we had extra eyes for the hunt. The container was stuffed with swag. TFTH SL

I went to an event near here and teamed up with nerak2001 and sqweeter to find a few in the area. It was cool and overcast, but I like caching on days like this. Keeps the muggles at home instead of in all the parks. :P We didn't really have a plan, but decided to more or less go around in a circle. We brought the geo pooch along for this one. We all remarked how cute the baby geese were - looked like there were 5-6 of them. They saw the dog and headed to the other side of the lake. We started looking where our phones zeroed out, when we didn't find anything we read logs and used coords from previous finders. Even so, it took us pretty long to find the cache - nerak2001 had the eagle eyes here! Thanks for the smiley - find #2402.

After the Team_CSG - Voyage to the Midnight Sun event, had a great time teaming up with lasouthpaw and Sqweeter to look for some local caches. After a bit of a search, we found it 70 or so feet off coords. The cache is in really good condition. Thanks for the fun!
